We were lucky to catch up with Simeon Gibbs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Simeon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far in my music career is my recent debut single “Real.” Now, I know that may seem oddly convenient, but I just have to give the context. Back in late 2022, I was an 8th grader in middle school daydreaming. I decided to put these wandering thoughts on a google doc. That started the long and effortful process of getting this song released. In the following year, I attended a musical summer camp where I would be able to record the song. There,I tweaked the lyrics and created a distinct melody. The experience was very impactful to the song-making process, but it was nowhere near close to getting released. I kept this song close to my heart as the years were passing, but at the back of my mind. I was juggling school and my other creative endeavors. My Mom would always show me a video of me singing “Real,” so I could never truly forget it. Fast forward to August 2025, I finally got a hold of the right people to help bring my vision for the song to life. Making it “Real” (see what I did there?). The journey this song took to be released was proof that the longer the wait, the more satisfying the listen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m not sure I can ever really say I “got into” being an artist, because I have always felt creative. Even from a young age I was always trying to create; like dancing to Michael Jackson videos, or writing acrostic poems based off my name. Art has always been a medium I feel God has blessed me to use. I am a singer as well as a growing song-writer. My style of songwriting pulls a lot from descriptive language and story-telling. My main goal is to bring listeners on a journey through sound, and to feel joy and reflectiveness after the track is done playing. Sonically, I draw inspiration from my favorite artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and The Weeknd. My main source of inspiration is Jesus Christ over all things, don’t get it twisted. I think what sets me apart from others is the passion for my craft, every song I make has such an articulate and unique process. Through the grace of God, I released my first single, “Real.” Seeing my community support my song was an amazing experience.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe that society can best support artists by truly appreciating the medium and supporting it with discussion and discourse.
With the current wave of artificial intelligence (AI) taking over, AI has started bleeding into the musical community, even with multiple AI songs topping charts. I think that some people are slowly starting to lose appreciation for the labor and love artists endure to create their craft. I don’t think convenience can overcome human-ingenuity.
AI has its benefits, but it can never replace the soul of creation. I truly think that listeners and enjoyers of music (and art in general) can counteract AI by joining the conversation; discussing art by comment or critiquing it. Supporting independent artists is also important. Through building each other up, the artistic community can remain strong.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
In my musical career, I aspire that the songs I create can connect with people across the world. When people choose to listen to my music, I hope that they can have their own interpretations. For example, when my latest single “Real” was released (I know, very convenient), many people had different understandings of my song. When I wrote the song, it was meant to be a yearning love ballad. I actually found that some listeners had different interpretations. Some said the song felt more familial/platonic, while others said it was a Christian song pleading to God. The conversations that sparked from my song reminded how every soul can perceive music differently. Pushing this kind of discourse is one of my strongest motivations moving forward.
