We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful MP Ricky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with MP below.
MP, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Growing up I always wrote simple rhymes and always had an interest in the behind the scenes of music making. The summer after graduating high school, I teamed up with my childhood friend, also named Ricky, and he kind of helped me get started on making music. Through the years I learned more and more about making beats and melodies after working with different people. There was nothing that really stood in the way and I wouldn’t have changed anything in the learning process.

MP, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by MP Ricky and I am a musician based out of Dallas, TX. I got into my industry just by curiosity for making music and always having an interest in Rap growing up. I now make all types of music and I have a broad range of sounds. I am most proud of the evolution of my sound and how I don’t stick to one type of genre.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The only goal I ever have is to make music that sounds good to myself and something I would personally listen to. I think I am a good judge and based off that, I can get a feeling of what people like.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think artists collabing with more artists is very important. It creates unity in the community. I also think people could support artists by having an open mind and giving their art a chance. Along with that, I think more artists should be open to criticism. I believe there is no evolution without criticism.
