We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kirschen TeX Wolford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kirschen TeX , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I initially wanted to pursue this career as an artist the moment I stepped into my high school here in Dallas. Booker T. Washington HSPVA exposed me to the craft and how far I could really go if I took it seriously. However, once I entered the University of the Arts in Philadelphia I understood that I still had a lot more work to do since it was an entirely different market.

Kirschen TeX , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kirschen TeX Wolford and I’m born and raised in Dallas, TX. The brand is TeXThr33 and it stands for TeX from the 3rd Coast. I attended the world renowned high school Booker T. Washington HSPVA and then from there to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. On this artist journey there have been many obstacles. The biggest one was losing my sister to kidney failure in 2016. This helped me understand that life isn’t fair. I became a more dynamic and versatile artist. I began branding myself in a more consistent way, and in a way where people could connect with my brand. The services my brand offer are live music performances, live comedy shows, songwriting/composition workshops, and acting workshops. When our clients need a service last minute, we’re always prepared and ready to deliver. We have a roster of comedians and musicians that we use to cater to any event. What sets us apart from other brands is our ability to execute and our professionalism. Our retention rate is high and our supporters usually want us back for more events. One thing I’m most proud of is the Culture of Value grant that I recently received through the city of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. This allowed me to host a live comedy show followed by a concert. Not only was the event a success, but our local artists were able to be paid adequately for their work.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to learn is being loyal to a fault. I had to quickly unlearn this behavior. Over the years, family and friends have shown me that all loyalty isn’t the same. There were so many times were I overextended myself and the energy wasn’t reciprocated. It took my younger sister passing away in 2016 for me to really understand. It taught me what not to do. Now of course I still bumped my head a few more times, but I’ve gotten way better at identifying when I’m about to become too loyal to a person or a group of people.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The one thing that drives me on my mission is the spirit of the Lord. In the past, I would’ve said family or a traumatic experience but I’ve grown out of that phase in my life. Now I just lean not to my own understanding and have a large amount of faith in God. He hasn’t failed me yet so why stop now?
