We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julian Blvck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Julian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
First time I realized that I wanted to become a DJ and event producer was when I joined VampireFreaks back in 2008. Having ventured into the Goth scene and falling in love with the music, I saw how there were events happening where people in the scene gathered to enjoy the music being played by DJs. I really wanted to be a part of that lifestyle, seeing that my love for the music was mutual to everyone who went out at night to enjoy, and thus began my journey to become who I am now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a professional DJ, producer, event coordinator, and nightlife personality who first began back in 2013. I spin a wide variety of music from goth, darkwave, industrial, cyberpunk, alternative bass, EDM, and many different other styles from underground to mainstream. Lately, I have also been making my own music, having released four songs so far and have many more in progress. For events, I produce primarily costume events, and some of my most known and prized event productions that have been consistent throughout the years are The Arcane Vampire Ball, The Fae Masquerade, and CyberHEXX.
For me, what I believe sets me apart from many other DJs is my ability to do many different styles of music, which has expanded a lot of my opportunities, and my events have the most unwavering commitment to the themes. We ensure that every detail is executed flawlessly, both in terms of entertainment and the overall aesthetic that aligns with the theme.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I once had a friend who ended up being emotionally abusive towards me, and tried his hardest to break me down and become like him. I told him my ambitions when I was younger, but he fed into the negativity of my dreams. Thankfully, that didn’t stop me. I’m now at the age he was when we first met and I am proud to say that I have now accomplished more than he ever did! To anyone reading, remember that the only people who are gonna tell you that you can’t accomplish something are the ones who fail. But not me, because I did it and you can too! If you want something bad enough, and you think positively about it, then you will work hard naturally to reach the point where you become it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, it is the ability to bring people together both through mixing music and hosting events that give people a reason to either get dressed up for an occasion, or just to simply go out for their own enjoyment. A philosophy that I live by is how fostering an alternative community is an act of rebellion, especially for the times we live in now, and I thrive as a contributor to our beloved community.
