We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jyssica White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jyssica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I’ve taken was betting on my self , I bet on myself every single time . There’s been times where business was slow and I’d have to come up with a marketing idea to climb myself out of a dark place . I count on my creativity and drive to succeed.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My path chose me . I was diagnosed with PCOS in early adulthood, actually I was in cosmetology school when I found out I had it . It’s an endocrine disorder that causes many symptoms , including hair loss . I experienced hair loss in middle school but my mother and I was under the impression that it was from the relaxers, so we both went natural. This was around the time “Good Hair “ the movie , came out . It spooked us all away from relaxers ! But that was’nt the reason. The experience of losing hair and dealing with that for years without knowing the underlying cause , drove me to do my own research which developed an interest that then turned into a passion. I chose to specialize in curly hair because it was many men and women who needed help or experienced a similar trauma as I , that I could assist with . I also wanted to show the world that your curly hair can be for any occasion, celebration, vacations, you don’t have to hide your hair . I enjoy breaking the science of hair down to my guests , it helps them understand their hair , it helps them accept and appreciate what they have . I’ve always loved science , it brings so much understanding!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I learned how resilient I was during the pandemic. Businesses had to shut down temporarily, which meant no or limited income . I survived that .
I also survived a traumatic labor and delivery with my baby girl . I worked up until a week before I had her , returned 3 weeks after having my baby , and due to doing it alone I couldn’t work as often as I needed to which caused a significant loss in revenue, I’m still rebuilding 3 years later . It’s hard starting over but I don’t give up .

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I show my curly crew that you can wear your natural hair in any setting .
Work , Gym , celebrations, professional pictures, etc .
In Florida , everyone knows our weather is up and down . I break the science of your hair down to you and I include our climate .you want to purchase products that fit your lifestyle and climate . I’ve shown people that their curly styles can hold and be successful. It totally changed the prospective of those frustrated with their hair . It makes them excited… you can literally see when the lightbulb clicks like , “ wow I finally understand my hair “ they tell their whole family about me , I’ve had the pleasure of servicing entire families and ending generations of hair related trauma .
