We recently connected with Kyra Clemons and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Every project I’ve worked on has been meaningful to me, especially in my journey as a collage artist focused on the African diaspora. Each piece offers a new challenge, a new story, or a new way to honor the histories and identities that inspire my work. Through these projects, I’ve learned to experiment boldly, trust my instincts, and embrace the layered, intuitive nature of collage.
Some projects push me technically, deepening my understanding of texture, composition, and symbolism. Others stretch me conceptually, encouraging me to explore narratives of resilience, memory, and the complexity of Black experiences. Together, they’ve shaped my artistic voice and strengthened my commitment to creating work that reflects, uplifts, and reimagines the African diaspora.
Every project contributes to my growth, reminding me that creativity is an evolving journey, one where each piece builds on the last and guides me toward new ways of understanding myself and the stories I want to tell.

Kyra , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Kyra, daughter, sister, educator, artist, creative also known as “to Sisters in Wisdom” a walking creative and living love letter shaped by the wisdom of those who came before me. My art, business, and voice exist to honor and uplift the richness of Blackness and Black stories. I create for the heard and unheard, weaving cultural memory, my Atlanta roots, and my African diasporic lineage into every piece. My work is a conversation, an offering that begins with “to” and always closes in wisdom my signature and compass.
As an educator by day and creator for life, I move with purpose. Teaching grounds my service; creating frees my imagination. My classroom, my studio, and the streets of Atlanta, Brooklyn, and beyond are spaces where knowledge, memory, and possibility live. I work in bright colors and bold textures because our stories deserve to be seen, felt, and remembered vividly. “to Sisters in Wisdom” is my call, my tribute, and my promise to continue creating, teaching, and living in wisdom.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Creating, creating, and creating from my mind, body, and soul is at the core of who I am as an artist. My practice is deeply intentional, and I pour my full self into every piece I make. One of the most meaningful parts of this journey is having conversations with people about my work. I love hearing the emotions my art evokes, whether they are good, challenging, or unexpected. Those reactions remind me that art is alive, constantly shifting based on who engages with it.
I am inspired by the feedback, reflections, and wisdom others generously share. Their insights push me to expand my thinking, refine my craft, and continue evolving. What makes this work truly rewarding is witnessing how my art can help people feel, reflect, or even heal. It’s an honor to create pieces that resonate so deeply, and I do not take that connection for granted. Knowing that my work can touch someone’s spirit fuels my commitment to continue creating with purpose, authenticity, and heart.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Buy art with love, intention, and respect. Understand that for an artist, our price is our price, reflecting our time, skill, vision, and the heart we put into every piece. When you choose to purchase art, you are not just acquiring an object; you are supporting a creative journey, a story, and a practice that often requires deep emotional and financial investment.
Engage with art in all its forms. Visit galleries, museums, local exhibitions, and pop-up shows. Explore the work of emerging artists in your community, just as you would support any local or corporate business. Your presence, your curiosity, and your willingness to invest make a real difference.
Supporting artists goes beyond buying work; this includes sharing their art, attending their events, and valuing the role creativity plays in our culture. When you show up for artists, you help sustain the creative ecosystem that enriches all of us. Art is meant to be experienced, questioned, felt, and carried into the spaces you call home. When you support artists with love and understanding, you nurture the world they help bring to life.
