We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Weso a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Weso, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned about what I did through just attempting it, a friend if mine who was already indulging in the craft told me to try it. I didn’t think anything of what I made but I noticed his and others reactions. So naturally Ive dabbled in it ever since.
Knowing what I know now, especially with working with other artist was networking and showcasing the talent. I was always reserved in my goals of becoming an artist and I always knew I had the talent but only a hand few of people knew. It wasn’t until at least 2-3 years ago that people seen me as an artist because of putting myself on front line, pushing my art and collating and networking with other artist. That would’ve expedited sh-t quicker fasho.
Weso, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Welcome to the club, some come by and never leave. thats where security comes in. I make music with all types of inspirations from hip-hop to rock, from alternative to rap-r&b hybrid’s. Just like your average everyday club, the most important aspect is the music. My job is to set the tone in the best way I can with a wide range of songs. Songs that may make you turn-up, sad, read a book, contemplate twerking (women). think of love, punch a wall, or indulge in healthy actives such as breath control (smoke weed)….amongst other things.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect is definently the impact your work has on people, from people you don’t know to the people closest to you. Being able to also let out frustration and pain in a positive way, my method may not be the healthiest but it does the job.
I feel all creatives have a different outlook on life and they color the world or at least widen the grey between the black and white. I like the fact that my music has been called relatable yet sometimes ethereal and calming, sometimes even “dark”, which is cool because thats what all my favorite artist conveyed also.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for right now is just too make the best music I can before things go left-field and I talk about the things I really want to say and thoughts I want to deliver. For right now my goal is to unite sounds, people and stamp a certain atmosphere, (hence “club”weso)
I also want to inspire people to go after what they want, whatever it is, there’s always going to be roadblocks but if u want it bad enough you’d build a tank for real.
