We were lucky to catch up with Cameron Wooten recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been a pretty health-conscious person and found myself spending a decent amount of money at local juice bars within Charlotte. Then one random day, it hit me that I could buy my own juicer and start making healthy juices on my own to save money. From there, I began to experiment with different fruit & veggie combinations, posting them on social media to encourage my family and friends to get into juicing as well. With a gentle push from a couple of super supportive friends, I made the decision to begin my entrepreneurial journey in January 2020, and the rest is history! It was a little scary to start a business right at the beginning of COVID-19, however, the fact that I began to create not only healthy juices, but juices that actually tasted amazing helped to generate buzz about Lishe Juice right from the start. It also was really important to me to create a brand that could help educate others within the Black community on the possible health benefits of juicing and to also expose them on how whole body wellness can really shift energy for the better within the collective.

Cameron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Cameron Wooten, owner of Lishe Juice LLC, in Charlotte, NC. The passion to create a juice brand that could contribute to uplifting the Black community is what really motivates me with my business. A lot of minority communities are located within “food deserts” that lack the presence of healthy food options and this is an issue that I wanted to help address. All of our juices are made with locally-sourced produce, with no additives or preservatives added. We offer our customers guidance on building custom juicing packages to fit their health needs and offer local pick-up and delivery in Charlotte, as well as shipping throughout the USA.

How did you build your audience on social media?
One thing that I used to always say to my friends was that “I never want to be a content creator”, because it seems that everyone that was in fact a content creator, received so many side eyes from others. I honestly had to break myself from that thought pattern and that truly helped me to build my audience on social media. With everything that I post, be it a pic, story, or video, I’m always intentional to be sure that it feels authentic to me because that’s when I know it will also come off authentically to my audience. It takes a lot of dedication and consistency to build a presence on social medial for your brand. There’s been plenty of times where I just didn’t feel like posting anything but I always try to push through and also keep it real with my followers. To date, I’ve built a community of over 76,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. I really make an effort to interact with my followers and I feel that it makes it easier to create content because I know that they genuinely appreciate what it is that I’m doing and contributing to the collective.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A major lesson that I had to learned since starting Lishe Juice is that you can’t assume who will and won’t support your business and vision. When I first started out, I somewhat assumed that it would be automatic for my family and friends to all support my business but it didn’t really go that way exactly. It was a little discouraging at first, but I than began to receive an overwhelming amount of support from people that I may have met in passing or what didn’t know me from a can of paint. That really opened my eyes to see that if I can get people who never seen me before to invest their time and support into what I created, I truly had something special on my hands.
