Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sherkeer Chance. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sherkeer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Paper Jam grew from my childhood to adulthood. I always wanted to get into fashion and most importantly build a positive community through fashion as well, but was hesitant out of fear. As I got older, I’ve gotten more confident with my vision and with the help of my cousin Assata we came up with the name “Paper Jam”. The name connects with a paper jamming in a printer being similar to the overflowing thoughts through our brain. Being a creative, overthinking/overflowing thoughts is a part of our daily lives. So once we got the name all the pieces of the puzzle came together. I knew from the ideas, designs and community that we got some special. Our unique approach is our slogan “We Don’t Know Anything” which may reflect our honesty as a brand or a deeper conversation amongst us humans. It’s very relatable to those that connect with us and that’s our focus.

Sherkeer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I guess I got into the industry as soon as I started Paper Jam. I never went to school for fashion but It’s been a 24/7 position for me. Paper Jam is a clothing brand that started in 2020, at the moment we sell hats, tops, bottom & pins. As a shy person myself who doesn’t really speak, I aim for our product designs to be good ice breakers/self expression conversation pieces that would be a good problem solver for those that are shy like myself. We also provide experiences, as we have at least one or two events a year that we provide music, games, free food & drinks for our customers and the community the event is located in to connect and have a good time with the brand. The feedback we get from our customers and followers about how our brand events provides a safe space for them, how our products helped build a better relationship with their family or how they look forward to our “Song Of The Day” everyday on instagram. These moments that we create is what I’m most proud of and would just love to continue to build on that to grow our Paper Jam community.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The night before our event this past summer in Crown Heights, Brooklyn NY, we have an issue with the first batch of “Confused Lords” pants we made for the event. These pants are hand painted as a lot of our products to make sure our costumers get a one of one piece. My business partner and designer Del (@delmar_s_springer) stayed up with me whole night until the morning of the event hand painting a whole new batch of pants for the event. He also did a similar life saving assistance for my very first Paper Jam event in 2020. I don’t know what I would do without his help.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
