We were lucky to catch up with Tyjahné Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tyjahné, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Asante Cosmetics came from a desire to create beauty products that honored both wellness and authenticity. I noticed that many women, including myself, wanted products that not only enhanced their appearance but also made them feel confident and empowered. At the time, there weren’t many options that combined high-quality, plant-based ingredients with a focus on self-expression and personal affirmation.
I wanted to create something different, something that celebrated individuality and encouraged women to embrace their natural beauty while feeling seen and valued. That’s how the idea for our signature Glaze lip gloss and Mirror Magic classes came about. Each gloss includes a positive affirmation to inspire confidence, and the classes give women a space to create their own gloss and personal message, blending creativity with empowerment.
I felt this was a worthwhile endeavor because it addressed both a personal and broader community need, helping women feel confident, celebrated, and authentically themselves. The excitement came from knowing that I wasn’t just selling a product, I was creating an experience and a movement around self-love, authenticity, and empowerment. It felt unique because it combined product and experience in a way that no other beauty brand was offering, and I knew there was a community of women who would connect deeply with this vision.

Tyjahné, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Tyjahne Taylor, and I am the founder of Asanté Cosmetics. This journey began with my personal wellness journey and a desire to be intentional about what I put in and on my body. As a biology teacher who values health, wellness, and clean beauty, I wanted to create products that were safe, nourishing, and empowering. That’s why my signature lip gloss is made with only three simple, high-quality ingredients and comes with an affirmation to inspire women to walk in their authenticity. Beyond our products, I created Mirror Magic classes to provide women with an interactive space where they feel seen, heard, and valued. In these classes, participants create their own custom lip gloss and personal affirmation, blending creativity, self-expression, and wellness practices. The purpose is to help women unlock their authenticity, honor who they are, and embrace confidence in both small and meaningful ways. These experiences solve the problem many women face of feeling overlooked, undervalued, or disconnected from their true selves. What sets Asante Cosmetics apart is this combination of intentional, minimal ingredient beauty products and immersive experiences that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. I am most proud of my ability to keep going, showing up with tenacity not just for myself but for others, and creating opportunities for women to discover their confidence and self-worth. I guide women to unlock their authenticity within, honor who they are through affirmations, and experience wellness in a holistic, empowering way. I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that Asante Cosmetics is more than a beauty brand it is a movement for self-expression, empowerment, and authentic living. Every gloss, every affirmation, and every Mirror Magic class is designed to help women feel celebrated, confident, and fully themselves.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, Think and Grow Rich has had a big impact on my entrepreneurial thinking. It taught me that perseverance is crucial and that success often comes just beyond the point where most people quit. It reinforced the importance of believing in yourself, staying committed to your vision, and pushing through challenges even when progress feels slow. The book also emphasized the power of mindset, showing me that your thoughts shape your reality, and that maintaining focus, clarity, and a positive outlook are essential for long-term success. It encouraged me to take consistent action, embrace discipline, and trust the process, even when results aren’t immediate.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Right now I’m in the process of building my team for Asante Cosmetics. Early on I thought I had to handle everything myself every detail, every task. But I quickly realized that approach was holding me back. To grow I needed clarity on what’s essential, what I can delegate, and the systems I need to keep things flowing.
Now I’m carefully evaluating what I need and don’t need, who should be on my team, which processes need structure, and how to create consistency across the brand. It’s not just about doing more, it’s about creating flow so the business can operate smoothly while I focus on vision and strategy.
This is teaching me one of the hardest lessons in entrepreneurship. Resilience isn’t just about pushing harder, it’s about building support, letting go of control, and designing systems that allow growth to happen naturally.
