We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexus Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexus below.
Hi Alexus, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is founding and growing GNB Book Club, a community I started in 2020. I noticed a gap in spaces where readers especially women of color could come together to discuss books, share ideas, and build meaningful connections. I wanted to create more than just a book club; I envisioned a space that fostered creativity, personal growth, and community support.
Starting it from scratch meant building everything myself: from organizing monthly meetings, curating book selections, and planning events, to creating digital content and branded merchandise. Over time, it grew into a thriving community of members who genuinely look forward to participating each month. Seeing the impact it has on members’ lives, how it sparks conversations, inspires growth, and encourages a love of reading has been incredibly rewarding.
This project is meaningful to me because it combines my passion for books, creativity, and leadership while allowing me to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. It taught me resilience, organization, and the importance of building community with intention.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alexus Anderson, and I am an author, creative director, and entrepreneur. I’m the founder of LalaLGraphics, a graphic design company, and GNB Book Club, a thriving book community I started in 2020. My work spans writing, design, community building, and event creation, and all of it is driven by my passion for creativity, storytelling, and meaningful connection.
I got into my creative work because I’ve always loved expressing ideas visually and through words. From a young age, I gravitated toward writing poetry and creating art, and over time, that naturally evolved into entrepreneurship and publishing. I realized I could combine my love for books, writing, and design to create platforms where others could also experience inspiration and community. This led me to self-publish multiple books, including poetry collections and novels, while also building my graphic design business to help brands visually tell their story.
Through LalaLGraphics, I provide creative solutions for businesses and individuals, including digital content, branding, and custom merchandise. My work helps clients bring their visions to life, stand out in crowded markets, and communicate their identity clearly and beautifully. Through GNB Book Club, I create engaging book focused experiences, host events, and foster a community that encourages personal growth, critical thinking, and connection among readers.
What sets me apart is the combination of my creative skills with a strong sense of leadership and community building. I’m not just creating products or hosting events; I’m curating experiences and stories that leave an impact. I care deeply about quality, authenticity, and connection, and that’s reflected in everything I do from my books to my events to the designs I create.
I’m most proud of building GNB Book Club from the ground up into a vibrant, supportive, and engaged community, and of self-publishing multiple books that resonate with readers. These projects represent my commitment to creativity, entrepreneurship, and making meaningful contributions to people’s lives.
For potential clients, followers, or fans, I want them to know that my brand is about creativity, authenticity, and community. Whether you’re engaging with my books, attending a GNB event, or working with me for design services, you can expect a thoughtful, high quality, and impactful experience. My goal is to inspire, connect, and create opportunities for others to express themselves and grow, just as I continue to grow and evolve in my craft.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my creative journey is driven by a mission to inspire connection, foster community, and empower others through storytelling and creativity. Whether it’s through my books, my graphic design work, or the GNB Book Club, my goal is to create spaces and experiences where people feel seen, inspired, and encouraged to explore their own creativity.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely! looking back, there are a few resources I wish I had known about earlier in my creative journey. For one, mentorship and community networks for creatives were invaluable once I discovered them, but early on, I felt like I was navigating everything alone. Having guidance from experienced professionals or access to structured creative communities could have accelerated my growth and helped me avoid some common pitfalls.
I also wish I had known more about business and marketing resources for creatives, like online courses, tools for branding and content creation, and publishing guidance. Learning early how to combine creativity with strategy would have saved a lot of trial and error and allowed me to focus more on producing meaningful work sooner.
Finally, I think self-publishing and digital tools for creative independence things, and social media strategies would have been game changing if I had access to them from the start. These resources have become essential in helping me scale my projects, connect with my audience, and maintain control over my creative vision.
Overall, I’ve learned that knowing where to find the right tools, communities, and guidance early on makes a huge difference, and now I try to share that knowledge with others on their creative journeys.
