We were lucky to catch up with Alessandro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alessandro, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I think the biggest risk I’ve ever taken was moving to New York City all by myself to pursue my acting career. I left behind my friends, my family, my culture, and my entire comfort zone. It was a journey into the literal unknown.
I don’t think I was truly scared until it became real. Changing my environment completely and studying something as raw as acting cracked me open and rebuilt me from scratch. I’m a much better actor and therefore a better person because of it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Alessandro Garbagna and I’m an actor and musical theater performer. My passion for it started when I was very little. I started acting in high school in a theater company and then, during my years of college in Milan, while I was working hard to get a business degree, I established myself as an actor in the Milan theater scene.
I led in multiple popular productions of Grease and Mamma Mia!, and I toured with “Gli Sposi Promessi Show.” One week after receiving my business degree, I flew to NYC, where I studied Musical Theater at AMDA and Acting for the Camera at AADA. After graduating from AMDA, I started my acting career in the USA, which includes acting in the Off-Broadway play “The Wrestle,” nominated twice at the New York Theater Festival, and performing in the award-winning play “It Was Hers.”
I really think that what sets me apart is the ability to portray characters full of energy and emotion — either an active, comedic energy, or a more passive, internal energy in dramatic roles where characters are taken over by their emotions.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes. My mission is to give something to people through my work — to leave them with a feeling, a thought, a memory, or even a small shift inside themselves. I think the greatest power of acting is that it can touch someone in a way real life sometimes can’t.
I’ve seen plays and movies that stayed with me for years, and certain actors — like Julia Roberts — are so authentic and present that whatever they do leaves you with something real. That’s the kind of impact I want to have.
I hope that, through every role, I can offer honesty, emotion, and connection. If someone walks away feeling understood, moved, or simply less alone, then I’ve achieved my mission.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To me, the most rewarding aspect about an artist’s journey is that it goes hand in hand with your personal life journey. It teaches you how to listen to yourself — which is incredibly hard, because it can destroy the image you thought you had of who you are. It’s a journey of accepting yourself and getting closer to your true self.
When you do it honestly, you realize that sometimes people are more authentic in the fictional world of a show than they are in real life — which is a paradox. And when it’s done correctly, it can also help you heal. That’s why it becomes so addictive. It’s one of the healthiest paths a person can choose.
