We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gregg DaCosta. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gregg below.
Hi Gregg, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The biggest risk I took was saving up a good amount of money and investing it on myself. I bought my camera gear, many times I paid for a crew and paid for the cast when it came to creating a film’s. The risk here was simply if I place this money into my craft, will I make this back? But the answer was and will always be yes, because when you believe in yourself you have to go all in. We take risks everyday when we walk outside and go to work, or visit a friend or family, or even when you eat a specific food from a restaurant, there’s so much risks in life… But why wouldn’t you want to take a risk on yourself, your goals, your dreams? That should be one of the most important things in your life. You should always be the most important thing in life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How I got into my industry was from me being inspired by films and tv shows and saying that’s what I want to do, because I always thought about “if I did it, I would do it this way..”, so I figured why not do it? So I started screenwriting, then from there I did acting, following up with directing, producing, editing, videography, and AI animations. Each one I took time to learn, and even still I’m learning more as the days go on, but as a creative or just as a person, you never stop learning. With the world getting more advanced I feel like from everything that I’ve learned it was a great skill to use for creating AI animations which led to opening major doors for myself and business. Learning all those skill sets is a thing that’ll always make me stick out from the rest, especially when a client hires me because they know they are getting someone who has more than one skill that can be applied to the job.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
How I put together the funding for my business was when I was working a 9-5. I will tell anyone this, in order to get to a destination you have to start somewhere. For me I started off in retail, I’ve worked in it for nearly 17 years. Throughout the time, yes I still had bills and all those expenses, but I would put aside money in order to invest into my business. So to anyone if you want to start your own business, it is okay to have a 9-5, know that it’s not forever, it’s there to help you grow your business and take care of you In meantime.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started to grow my audience with the films I created over the years and posting the success and release of them. But then my social media really took off when a good friend of mine taught me some skills within Videography and AI animations which led me to have a major success on social media in less than a year. But nothing comes without hard work and consistency, so if you want to grow a big page on social media you have to be consistent.
