We were lucky to catch up with Deanna Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deanna, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In July, I experienced a moment that many people fear—being laid off from corporate America. What could have been a setback became the turning point of my life. Instead of rushing back into a familiar system, I chose to honor the vision that had been calling me forward. I took a leap of faith, trusting that my passion, purpose, and God-given gifts were more powerful than any job title I had ever held.
Leaving corporate stability wasn’t just a risk—it was a declaration. I decided that my dreams deserved the same dedication I had once given to building someone else’s company. Today, I’m building my own legacy, creating meaningful work that aligns with who I am and the impact I want to make. The transition hasn’t been easy, but it has been transformative. With every step, I’m proving that purpose can be a career, passion can be profitable, and faith can be a strategy.
My journey is not about simply working for myself; it’s about empowering others, creating opportunities, and showing that sometimes the layoff is not the end—it’s the invitation to begin.

Deanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Deanna Jackson, community activation lead and full-spectrum doula with the Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation’s Doula Project Resource, where I advocate for equitable maternal care and provide education and support throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. With a commitment to both clinical excellence and culturally grounded care, I work to ensure that women and birthing families—especially those underserved—receive informed, dignified, and compassionate support.
I’m also a yoni steam and womb healing practitioner and owner of Royal Encounters LLC, a company centered on women’s wellness and feminine wholeness. Through Royal Encounters, I help women reconnect to their bodies through holistic reproductive care. I work to promotes womb health as a foundation of community well-being, honoring both ancestral knowledge and evidence-based practices.
Additionally I’m also a national certified phlebotomist working to start Vital Draw Concierge, a mobile phlebotomy and wellness service focused on expanding access to reproductive testing and maternal resources. Vital Draw Concierge will offer Peekaboo gender DNA testing, cord blood banking support, DNA paternity testing, and placenta encapsulation—bringing convenience, education, and empowerment directly to families.
Across every role, I am driven by one purpose: to protect, educate, and elevate women and families at the beginning of life. I believes that when we support the womb, we strengthen the world.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
The greatest tools in this work aren’t just skills and certifications—they are compassion, communication, and the ability to protect a mother’s dignity while honoring her choices. When we honor a woman’s choices, we honor her power.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. I would choose this work every time, not because it’s easy, but because it matters. Supporting women at the beginning of life—whether through birth, wellness, or access to testing—is not just a profession, it’s a purpose. This isn’t just a career—it’s a calling. Helping women reconnect with their bodies, protecting birth experiences, and bringing care to where families need it most feels like I’m fulfilling something much bigger than myself.
