We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Abi Butler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Abi below.
Abi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have had the opportunity to make a lot of beautiful things. I would say that near the top of that list are my two sewing books that I’ve written and published. They took so much time and effort and really pushed me to do my best.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up around a lot of creative and strong women. My mom was sewing our clothing and my nan was always making us things as well. My three sisters and I were always decked out in coordinating or matching outfits. It was fun growing up in my world. We would walk over to my great grandmas house and look at the latest quilt she was making. By the time I was 5, I was doing my own projects (with some guidance, of course). But the time I was 8, I had a sewing machine. I’ve always loved to craft and sew. Today, I’m making show heifers and pigs, Christmas stockings, and more.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Watching people enjoy what I make. It truly makes me so happy to serve people in this way. I believe God gives each of us different talents and I want to use mine to the fullest. This is the season I’m in and I don’t want to waste it.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Absolutely! I used to make cowhide bags (and still do occasionally!), but that shifted when I realized the show stuffies were something that more people wanted. I knew I couldn’t continue to work part time, make quality bags and the stuffed animals. So I decided to liquidate my bag inventory and rebrand myself. It’s been a slow process, but I’m grateful for all the support from my customers along the way!
