We were lucky to catch up with Indya Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Indya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?
When I first started my business, it was just me wearing every hat imaginable — from marketing to client calls, to designing systems I had to learn as I went. I was driven by a vision bigger than myself: creating a brand that empowered others to build financial freedom and legacy.
In the beginning, it was exciting but also overwhelming. I had the passion, but not yet the team. As things began to grow, I realized I couldn’t do it all alone — especially if I wanted to expand my impact. So, I started recruiting my first few team members through social media. Most of them were people who followed my content and connected with my story. They were moms, students, and entrepreneurs like me who wanted to create a better life for themselves.
My recruiting and training process was very personal and hands-on. Instead of traditional interviews, I focused on conversations — getting to know people’s “why” and helping them see what was possible. Once they joined, I provided step-by-step mentorship, access to digital tools, and mindset training. I believe in teaching people how to believe in themselves before anything else.
If I were starting today, I’d delegate sooner. In the beginning, I tried to do everything myself, but I’ve learned that trusting others and building a team early on allows you to scale faster and serve better. I’d also document my systems earlier — what worked, what didn’t — so new team members could onboard with more structure.
Overall, those early days taught me resilience, leadership, and the importance of building a community — not just a company.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media didn’t happen overnight — it started with me showing up authentically and sharing my journey in real time. In the beginning, I didn’t have a huge following or a perfect strategy. What I did have was a message: to inspire other women, especially moms, to create freedom through entrepreneurship.
I started by documenting my daily life — balancing motherhood, business, and personal growth — while sharing value along the way. I talked about the lessons I was learning, the mistakes I made, and the wins that kept me going. Over time, people began to connect with my transparency and consistency. They saw themselves in my story.
As my business grew, I became more intentional with my content — using my platforms to educate, empower, and elevate. I built a community by providing tips, mentorship opportunities, and behind-the-scenes moments that showed the real work behind success.
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is this: don’t chase followers — build relationships. Focus on being consistent, authentic, and intentional. Share what you know, but also share who you are. Social media isn’t just about promotion; it’s about connection. When people trust you and feel your energy, growth becomes natural.
Also, don’t wait to “have it all together.” Start where you are with what you have. Your story, your journey, and your voice are what make your brand powerful.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My biggest advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to lead with vision, not just direction. People don’t just follow instructions — they follow purpose. When your team understands the why behind what they’re doing and feels genuinely connected to the mission, they’ll show up with passion and pride.
I’ve learned that communication, recognition, and consistency are everything. I make it a point to celebrate both small and big wins because people want to feel seen and valued. A simple “I see you” or “I’m proud of you” can go a long way in keeping your team motivated.
I also believe in creating a space where everyone feels supported and heard. I encourage open conversations, personal growth, and accountability. We don’t just focus on results — we focus on people. When your team knows you care about their development and well-being, loyalty and morale naturally follow.
And finally, lead by example. Show your team what dedication, integrity, and positivity look like. Energy is contagious — if you lead with confidence and compassion, your team will reflect that energy right back.
