We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katlyn Brumbelow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katlyn below.
Alright, Katlyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
February of 2020 I started a small side business selling posey arrangements at pop ups around town. It was just something extra to help save up and buy cute baby things while I was pregnant. It went great through the spring and into the summer, but it wasn’t something I put a lot of focus into. Then in August my little girl was born at 31 weeks gestation at 3 lbs 4 oz. Florals fell to the background. Between working a full time job and going back and forth to the NICU, I’d all but given up on my business. After a 27 day NICU stay I finally got to take her home and got back into the swing of things. Only for my job to tell me I could not work from home any longer and my daughter couldn’t come with me to the office. Putting my 10lbs 3 month old in daycare was not an option for me, so I quit. I threw everything I had into growing my business. Over the last five years, I’ve been incredibly blessed to watch both my daughter, now son, and the business grow. Without taking that risk, trusting God to catch us, and jumping in head first our life would look very different.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! My name is Katlyn and I am the owner and lead designer for The Ghost Orchid LLC. We are an event florist shop that services all of the southeastern US. My favorite part of my business is working with couples to make their dream designs with realistic budgets.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a floral artist for me is always seeing the bride and grooms faces when they see their designs for the first time. Months have gone into planning every little detail out and they can only imagine everything together. Trusting that I will take the vision and turn it into reality. Seeing the awe on their faces on their big day and being a part of their story is the most amazing feeling.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I’ve tried all the different marketing strategies, but all of my favorite clients have been from word of mouth. People that have either attended the events I’ve done or are friends or family of my past brides. Maybe because it’s easier to trust that I can deliver on their vision after seeing proof, but the whole process is more light hearted and leads to beautiful collaboration.
