We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stephania Bonilla Salas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stephania below.
Alright, Stephania thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Yes, I’m definitely happier as a business owner. Being a DJ isn’t just my job it’s my passion and my lifestyle. I remember one night after a long weekend of gigs, I was completely exhausted and thought, “Maybe a regular job would be easier.” But then I thought about the energy of the crowd, the music, and the connection I create with people and I realized this is exactly where I’m meant to be. What I do doesn’t feel like work; it’s what I love.
So yes, being a business owner can be stressful at times, but it gives me something no regular job ever could: purpose, passion, and the chance to live my dream every single day.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Stephania Bonilla Salas, a San Diego DJ Music has always been my passion I grew up helping my dad DJ in Acapulco, and after moving to the U.S., I turned that love into my career. I provide DJ services for Weddings, Quinceañeras, Festivals, and Private Events, creating experiences that bring people together and make every moment memorable. What sets me apart is my energy, my connection with the audience, and my ability to create moments that people truly feel. I’m proud to live my dream every day, doing what I love. If you want to know more about my journey, I’d invite you to check out some of my interviews, including SD Voyager and Canvas Rebel they share more of my story and how I’ve built my business.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team, whether it’s for an event or a growing business, starts with communication and respect. I’ve learned from running my DJ business that every person on the team from assistants helping with setup to collaborators during an event feels motivated when they know their role is valued and understood. Maintaining high morale is about creating a positive, energetic environment, just like I do when performing. I make it a point to celebrate small wins, encourage creativity, and involve everyone in the process so they feel part of the bigger picture. The biggest takeaway from my experience is that a motivated, happy team translates directly to amazing events and experiences for clients.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been client recommendations. By understanding their vision and delivering an unforgettable event, clients naturally share their excitement with others. Social media has also helped me showcase my work and energy, but nothing beats a personal recommendation from someone who’s experienced what I bring to an event.
