We recently connected with Jonathan Fredette and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jonathan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
From an early age they fostered two things that shaped me to be who I am. One – creative freedom and encouragement. Whatever current obsession it was, they not only encouraged it, but provided resources to help make it happen. They made sure I didn’t have a video game console early in my childhood so I’d spend more time outside and building massive structures with my legos. They bought me a drum kit so I could have a creative outlet in high school and to this day music and art are at the center of who I am. They also demanded work. They didn’t ask, they made sure to let me know when it was time. Although I dragged my heels working with my dad on the outdoor patio or building the pond, rather than playing, it showed me the value of what you can accomplish with work. It also made me appreciate the games more.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My industry is unique. I was drawn to natural medicine, specifically mushrooms and herbalism because I needed to heal. I was sick, stressed and unwell in high school – but it didn’t make sense why. I was a normal American kid. Being a normal American kid was the cause. I was stressed, always trying to perform at the highest, but didn’t know how to self regulate my stress and unwind, my mind always going. I ate a standard American diet, better known as, poison. I had to find ways to help heal my mind, body and spirit. The latter being a search for meaning and truth along my spiritual journey through life. Along the way I picked up ways to help heal – nutrition, forms of intense exercise, various mushrooms and herbs and now I offer these to my people. The art cane through in the form of working with extracting these in the form of ‘tinctures,’ bioavailable expressions of the plant or mushroom that share potency. I also share wisdom I’ve learned through education and connection with community via events. Community is one of the best medicines there is. Today we have 12 unique products and have helped hundreds of people over the past 6 years find renewed vitality and resilience. It’s a lifelong passion I would do even if it wasn’t my business.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
6 years of business and still at it. If you’re an entrepreneur, you might understand. The level of self trust and consistency required to never quit is a challenge. To flow with the ebbs of the tide of the market and remain optimistic is a challenge. The resilience I found in working with the stress and hardship of this work comes from the medicine I work with. I suppose that’s fitting.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Scarcity. There’s not enough. I think we’re programmed in our world that money and competition in the market are a zero sum game. It’s an illusion. We live in a world that’s incredibly abundant but in our fear of lacking we manifest so much unnecessary suffering and lack despite being in one of the richest times in history. I’m currently unraveling this programming in my own consciousness and I see it happening on a societal level as well.
