We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazmine Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazmine below.
Jazmine, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Now when it comes to questioning if I am happier as a business owner, my answer is 1,000 times yes. It allows so much freedom, growth and development, and it also provides a level of humbleness to see the time, energy, and moments of overcoming an obstacle or simply achieving a milestone as we recently celebrated our 5th year in business and success of several of our programs one of which was launched over the summer. Having come from a world where I worked a 9-5 which I found out early on in my work career I wanted something other than to be tied down to any particular industry for 40 hours per week while investing in someone else’s establishment, so I do know that working for others does attribute great things, but there are certain individuals which are just built different, I quickly switched to contract work which allowed me to control my own schedule and become my own boss. While it is easy to thrive as a part of a team, most of the time creatives such as myself get bored easily because we don’t have outlets and it flows whether you are in your own space or not. So rather than waste my talent and have all the great ideas not be explored, I rather pour into building the brands that I have been favored to steward well over and enjoy pouring into others and also allowing them the things that were not available to me when I was amongst the 9-5 workers. As with anything you learn as a business owner that not only is it imperative that you always manage but having a tangible product line which differs from my other service driven brands, you also have to maintain your finances and budgets which sometimes forces you to eliminate products even when you think they are great due to them not being received well by your client base.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am grateful to have a beautiful family with whom I share with my husband Adrian of 17 years. I am a very energized person so I love to pour into others no matter what the atmosphere. It was no different when it came to the way the birthing of N2Skin by 4K came about. I educate my children at home and one of the skills I encourage them to adopt is to serve others, so when the pandemic came hit, it was an act of kindness that led to what you all now have come to know and what has grown tremendously into N2Skin by 4K, not only offering Luxury Style Skincare, but more recently, we have launched our initiative Clutches for a Cause, to educate young girls and women about their feminine hygiene while we supply them within the community with sanitary items , toiletries, and laundry detergent and also host workshops in relation also. In conjunction we have our Beauty Boss Program which allows girls and women to become their own bosses through the numerous creative abilities so many possess being educated in business development, management, and productivity. Starting is the biggest obstacle we had, as many people have great ideas but don’t know where to start, so through this program we wanted to provide a playbook of how to create, plan, fund, establish, and launch a brand. I think that I am most proud of the success that we have had with being able to survive having to revamp as we relocated and the area we reside in is a smaller location so it really took a lot of prayer and obedience in incorporating new ideas and still staying true to our initial mission and product line. The main thing that our potential clients and fans need to know is that we are here for them and want to know what you have experienced in the realm of products and care, we want you to understand we want to continue to create meaningful products that are a solution to problematic areas. You can consider this as the character of our brand and we want it to remain this way. This is primarily why we have chosen to operate the way we do. We customize everything so that our customers can have a one of a kind experience and know that we don’t just own the brand but allow the work to be completed by third parties. We are big on inhouse quality over quantity.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Wow! A lesson I had to unlearn is that just because you have a great product or even a good concept that worked in the past, doesn’t mean it will always work well. When we relocated we had to make a huge decision and we chose to preserve the height of our success and in turn incorporate something new instead of tanking out due to taking risks and potentially losing it all by remaining stagnant and refusing to grow/expand. This has worked well and has opened up a number of AMAZING opportunities and has allowed us to preserve our mission and create legacy and the imprints that we made prior to such transitions.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Listen, when it comes to social media, I am definitely crediting my amazing team as I am really not one to share, follow, and like things just for the sake of blending in or keeping trends. If I like it, share it, or follow it, it is authentically liked by me. When it came down to our brand ironically Social Media primarily IG was our greatest tool for Marketing and getting our brand out there as well as how we were exposed internationally. We took off very quickly and had great exposure and reviews, we sold out frequently and learned to troubleshoot behind the scenes well. I think that the ability to not try to replicate other products, brands, and just being authentic allowed us to stand out. We had an identity that didn’t look like those we shared the market with, if this meant spending a bit more on packaging, or products, that is exactly what we did. Early on we were approached by some pretty heavy hitter and the invitations still continue and we are extremely grateful for them all. I would advise those coming through the door to invest in a media team as it helped keep up with the ever so quickly changing platforms. Now you have Snap-chat, Tik-Tok, and all sorts of outlets but you have to find the appropriate fit for your brand and figure out what works, and some of this process will be trial and error, do what works well for your brand and stick to it. Don’t try to change your operation because everyone else is hopping ship. Stand firm on your foundation and add layers as you grow.
