We were lucky to catch up with Katherine Burks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katherine , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
So I always wanted to have my own business and as I was finishing school I was thinking about something I really love and always need so that’s how I got into the lipgloss and lipstick business. I have all different color and for adults and kids because I am also a teacher and I wanted to have something that can reach the kids who love playing with make up to.

My name is Katherine Burks and my business is called kat unique where I sell lipstick and lipgloss, I am from Mitchellville Maryland. I got into my business because I always wanted to own my business but have fun with it as well. I been in my lipgloss and lipstick business for 5 years now, there are challenges but that also comes with owning your own business but I push through everyday.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn everyone will not support you even family and friends and that’s okay. Back story is from that is some people that is close barely have support me through this journey and I had to be okay with that.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think having a support system and a lot of different platforms has really help me build my marketing and really getting my business out there to people.
