In the world of entrepreneurship, surprises—both good and bad—are part of the journey. But for me, the craziest, most tumultuous event in my business life came through a series of unforeseen circumstances that tested my faith, resilience, and purpose.

I owned a financial consulting and tax preparation business, dedicated to helping others navigate their finances and achieve stability. Everything was running smoothly until a stranger, working under false pretenses, committed a fraud against my company. This individual sent clients to my business for tax filing, falsely claiming they worked for him when they never did. Before I knew it, I was not only accused of a crime I didn’t commit but also charged in Federal Court for those deceptive activities—an unimaginable nightmare.

The stress was overwhelming, especially as I was already enduring the heartbreak of losing my only son in a tragic car accident. During this dark period, my life seemed to unravel further. I spent thousands fighting the legal battle, which culminated in a 27-month sentence in federal prison. My reputation, my finances, and my personal life were all on the line. I even hired an appeal attorney, and thankfully, I won my appeal in the 5th Circuit Court, which was a turning point.
When I was released from prison and my business licenses were reinstated, I realized that the ordeal was not just about defending myself—it was about understanding my greater purpose. The years of separation from my daughters, the financial strain, and the emotional toll taught me invaluable lessons. I now see that these hardships were designed to help me keep families connected, especially those affected by incarceration.

Today, I own Keeping Families Connected, a nonprofit dedicated to providing free luxury prison trips and mentorship for children and families with incarcerated loved ones. What once was a harrowing chapter in my life has transformed into a mission to bless others. My business is no longer just a source of income; it’s a beacon of hope, love, and connection for families in need.

Looking back, I can say that the craziest thing that ever happened to me turned out to be the greatest blessing. It shaped me into not only a better business owner but also a servant to my community. Sometimes, life’s most chaotic moments pave the way for the most beautiful purpose.

Running a charity, especially one as meaningful as Keeping Families Connected, often requires pouring your heart—and your money—into every event, every campaign, every initiative. My annual charity gala is no different. It’s a labor of love meant to raise funds to purchase a new luxury van, enabling us to continue providing life-changing prison trips and mentorship programs for families in need.
This past February 2025, I invested heavily in hosting our biggest fundraiser of the year. Being self-funded, every dollar spent was an act of faith, knowing the impact it would have. But just days before the event, a critical contractor unexpectedly dropped the ball—delaying preparations and threatening to derail everything. The odds seemed stacked against us.
Despite the last-minute setbacks, I refused to give up. I pushed forward, determined to make it happen because I knew how much this event meant to so many families awaiting hope and connection. The night of the gala arrived, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of miraculous.

As the evening unfolded, something extraordinary happened. A young lady, who had been following my journey on social media for over five years, attended the event. She had seen my consistency and dedication, quietly supporting from afar. Little did I know, her journey of faith and compassion was about to collide with mine.
During the event, she stepped forward and announced that she was inspired by the work we do. Moved by my story and resilience, she decided to donate the proceeds of her personal savings to help us purchase that new luxury van. Her generosity not only covered the cost but was a testament to how faith, persistence, and genuine connection can turn setbacks into blessings.

That night reaffirmed why I do what I do. Despite the challenges, the setbacks, and the financial investments—sometimes even risking everything—I saw firsthand how perseverance can lead to miracles. Her donation allowed us to continue providing those life-changing trips and keep families connected.

The Serendipitous Meeting That Changed My Life Forever

Sometimes, life’s most beautiful moments happen unexpectedly, when you least expect them. For me, that moment happened in my little office during a time when I was feeling at my lowest.
At the time, I was battling the flu, physically drained and emotionally crushed by the devastating loss of my only son in a terrible car accident. I was not only sick but also weighed down by depression, feeling as if I had lost all my strength and hope.
One day, a man walked into my office to handle some business paperwork. He was there just for a quick signature and a trip out of the way. I was too tired, too overwhelmed, to give it much thought. He noticed I wasn’t feeling well and didn’t say much, just handled his business and left.

A few days later, he returned. But this time, he came bearing gifts—a beautifully arranged gift basket filled with everything one would need to recover from the flu: soup, crackers, orange juice, NyQuil, DayQuil, and other essentials. It was a simple act of kindness that caught me completely off guard.
That gesture sparked something in me. What started as a casual interaction quickly turned into something more meaningful. We began talking—about life, hope, resilience—and I found myself, for the first time in a long while, smiling again.

That year, on Valentine’s Day, we went on our first real date. From that moment, our bond grew stronger, and 16 years later, we not only share a beautiful life but also a thriving business partnership.
What began as a chance encounter rooted in kindness turned into a love story that transformed my life. Today, he is not only my husband but also my trusted business partner—proof that sometimes, life’s most unexpected moments can lead you to the greatest blessings.
