We were lucky to catch up with Betsy Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Betsy, thanks for joining us today. Showing clients you appreciate them is something I think most folks want to do – but it’s not always clear how to do it in a meaningful way. What’s one of the best examples of client appreciation you can share with us?
One of the best ways we show a client how much we appreciate them came during a removal that turned into something very special.
Nicole and Jimmy called us out for a bee removal, but Nicole wasn’t content to just watch from the sidelines, she wanted to be part of it.
So Pete handed her his bee suit and gloves, and she joined Betsy right at the hive. Together, they carefully and calmly removed the bees, transferring the honeycombs and bees into a beehive box to take back to our desert apiary.
Nicole asked questions the entire time, fascinated by how gentle and methodical the process really is.
For us, letting a client step into our world like that is one of the most fulfilling ways to show our appreciation. It’s an invitation to experience what we do, not just watch it. By the end, Nicole understood why we take so much care to save every bee. She told us it was one of the most memorable things she’d ever done, and we felt the same way.
Not every client wants to suit up, but when they do, it’s always a real way to connect with our clients and show them our appreciation for choosing to save the bees.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Betsy Lewis, Founder of Vegas Bees, where my partner Pete and I specialize in live bee removal and ethical beekeeping across Southern Nevada. We started this business with one simple goal: to save bees and help people coexist with them safely.
My journey began as a child helping my neighbor tend to her beehives in Maryland. After training under a master beekeeper, he told me about exterminators and how many colonies were being destroyed unnecessarily.
Most people just didn’t know there was a humane alternative. So, we built Vegas Bees around education, compassion, and hands-on expertise. Every colony we remove is carefully relocated to our desert bee sanctuary, where they’re given a second chance to live and continue pollinating.
We handle all types of removals, swarms, wall hives, sheds, attics, water meters, trees, and anywhere bees choose to call home.
What sets us apart is that we do it all without chemicals or destruction. We’re fully committed to caring for the bees, protecting our clients’ property, and making the experience positive for the homeowner or business owner. We take time to explain what’s happening, show clients the bees up close, and share photos and videos of the rescued colonies after they’re safely rehived.
Our work doesn’t only include removals. We manage dozens of hives, produce raw local honey, and maintain a pollinator-friendly environment that supports everything from coyotes and foxes to woodpeckers and ravens. It’s become a living ecosystem where the bees aren’t just surviving, they’re thriving.
What I’m most proud of is that every removal we do represents a life saved and a lesson shared. We’ve turned countless “bee emergencies” into opportunities for people to see the beauty and importance of bees firsthand.
I want people to know that Vegas Bees isn’t just a service, it’s a mission. We’re here to protect pollinators, educate our community, and prove that saving bees is not only possible but the right thing to do.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputation grew from doing the right thing every single time, even when it takes longer or costs more effort. From the beginning, we decided that Vegas Bees would never take shortcuts. There will be no spraying, no killing, no rushing through a job. Every removal is done carefully, humanely, and transparently, and people can feel that difference right away.
We also make education part of every service. We explain what we’re doing as we do it, show homeowners the bees up close, and share photos or videos of their colony once it’s rehived at our sanctuary. That honesty and openness build trust. Clients don’t just see us as beekeepers; they see us as advocates for the bees and for them.
Word of mouth has been our biggest driver. When someone watches us save a colony that another company would have destroyed, they remember it, and they tell their friends. Over time, that genuine care, along with hundreds of successful removals, created a reputation built on integrity, compassion, and results.
We’ve earned respect in our market by showing that bee removal can be both professional and ethical. We treat every colony and every client like they matter, because they do.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We built our social media following the same way we built our business. It’s all about being real and showing people what actually happens during a bee rescue.
From the start, we decided not to post polished, scripted content. Instead, we share genuine moments from the field: the hum of a swarm being gently collected, Betsy holding a frame full of bees, Pete rehiving a rescued colony at our desert apiary. People can see the care, the calm, and the purpose behind what we do, and that’s what connects with them.
We also focus on education. Every post is an opportunity to teach something. How to spot a swarm, why bees pick certain spots, and what to do if you find a hive in your wall. We don’t just tell people we save bees; we show them how and why it matters. Over time, that honesty has built a loyal audience who genuinely cares about pollinators and supports our mission.
For anyone just starting to grow their social media presence, my biggest advice is to stay authentic and consistent. Don’t try to copy others or chase trends that don’t fit your message. People respond to sincerity, not perfection. Show your work, tell the stories that mean something to you, and invite others into your world. If you care deeply about what you’re doing, that passion will come through, and your audience will eventually find you.
