We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ebonnie Modisett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ebonnie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I ever took was choosing to bet on myself, especially during one of the hardest times of my life. I’ve always loved beauty and doing makeup, but after losing my mom and brother during COVID, everything changed for me. I realized how short life is and how important it is to do something that truly matters. That’s when I found esthetician school. Once I got into facials, I fell in love! I love helping people feel confident in their skin, but I also love the way a facial can transform how someone feels inside, more relaxed, more cared for, more themselves. That’s the part that hooked me. Once I graduated I started my business as a solo esthetician, it was definitely scary! There is no guarantee of clients, no backup plan, just faith, passion, and a whole lot of trial and error. But now, almost three years later, I’m moving into a new suite and really stepping into the woman I’m meant to be. Taking that risk wasn’t easy, but it brought me to my purpose. Through my pain and loss I was able to find something that fills my cup and I can help others fill theirs. And I know my mom and brother are so proud of how far I’ve come and where I’m headed.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 25 year old solo esthetician and owner of Essentials by Ebonnie in Henderson, NV. Back in September of 2022, I was 22 years old when I graduated from esthetician school and about two months after I started my business in helping women and men achieve their dream skin! I always had a creative side to me and when I was younger, I was super into make up and beauty. It wasn’t till I got a little older that I discovered esthetician school, through that I was able to discover my passion for skin and transforming people from the outside in. I specialize in advanced skin treatments that support long term skin health and confidence. I focus on creating a customized treatment plan for each client that I have and combine that with retailed skincare as well. Skin treatments can range anywhere from microneedling, nanoneedling, dermaplaning, chemical peels and so much more! I help women and men who are dealing with hyperpigmentation, scarring, texture changes, and concerns they’ve either tried to fix on their own or felt unheard about in other spaces. What makes my approach different is that I customize everything, I don’t believe in cookie-cutter facials or quick fixes. My goal is always to figure out what your skin is trying to say, then build a plan that supports both your skin barrier and your long-term results.Education is a big part of my brand. I want my clients to understand their skin and the ingredients that will truly make a difference. I explain things in a way that’s easy to follow because empowered clients see the best results. I’m also really focused on the experience. My suite is a space where women and men can feel cared for, relax, and know they’re investing in someone who is genuinely invested in them. Skin is personal, so I take the time to truly get to know each client , their lifestyle, stress, and goals, so our plan fits their real life. One of the things I’m most proud of is the trust and loyalty I’ve built through real results, strong relationships, and a client-first approach. Essentials by Ebonnie bridges luxury and results. I want every client to feel confident in their progress and leave feeling better than when they came in: educated, supported, and beautiful in their own skin.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When it comes to social media, I’ll be honest and say it took me a while to get the hang of it and truly learn how to use it as an asset for my business. When I first started I would post the normal stuff like facial treatments, before and after photos and some educational videos. But I discovered along the way that, that’s what every other solo esthetician was posting and I wanted to stand out. The best way to do that was to post about myself more, I realized that there is no one else like me and that’s what sets my business apart. I started to let people into my life and let them see what its like to run a business, the challenges and struggles I face and the amazing wins. I still keep some things private, but for the most part, I’m an open book. Working with my mentor and business coach Stephanie Brand, helped me understand how to create content that truly connects. Now I use my platform to connect with my clients and people and put myself in their shoes, how does it feel to not know what’s going on with your skin or struggling to find the right products and routine for your skin. Because there is so much information out there about skin and skincare it can be overwhelming to know which one is the right one for you. By sharing my story and being relatable, I’ve been able to build trust and real connection with my audience. That authenticity is what continues to grow my community and attract clients who feel like they already know me before they even step into my suite.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I believe connection and communication are everything when it comes to client relationships. After each facial, I make sure to walk my clients through everything we did during the treatment, what to expect afterward, and how to take care of their skin at home. I always let them know they can text me anytime with questions or concerns. I want them to feel like they have a true skin expert in their corner. A couple of days after their appointment, I check in to see how they’re feeling and how their skin is responding. Clients love that personal touch because it shows I care about them as a person, not just their skin. Education is also a huge part of my brand, I believe knowledge is power! In the treatment room, I take time to explain products, ingredients, and simple changes they can make to support their skin. I also share skincare education on Instagram, TikTok, and through monthly emails so clients can stay informed and inspired between visits. At the end of the day, people remember how you make them feel, and I want every client who walks into my suite to feel cared for, seen, and valued.
