We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krys the Maximizer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krys below.
Krys, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Funny story. I love naming things after myself. In my last 9-5 our VP was obsessed with the strengths finder. My #1 strength is Maximizer. It fit me to a tee. It made me believe that the assessment had some truth in how we operate as people. So when I was naming my YouTube channel and business I chose Krys the Maximizer so I could maximize my life, money and experiences.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Krystal aka Krys the Maximizer. I am a strategic money coach. I help women be intentional with their money to reach their financial goals. I have been budgeting since my 1st job at 14 years old and couponing since I was 18 so over 14 years.
Since I started my YouTube channel in August 2018 my focus has been to help women be intentional with their money. I provide classes, group coaching, 1:1 coaching, workshops and masterclasses around being intentional with money.
My clients know me for money strategy. I help with initial money tips to help them get what they want without paying full price and actually see the money they save in their bank account. I love helping women to be able to do more of what they want with their money.
My current bio:
Hi I’m Krystal,
I haven’t paid for toothpaste in over 10 years. I’ve been couponing since I was in college and haven’t paid full price for many of my regular household items in years.
There are 2 things I have always known in my life:
I would own a business.
I love saving and making money.
I had a come to Jesus moment a few years ago and asked myself, “If money wasn’t an issue what would you be doing?”. My answer was couponing.
So I started a YouTube channel on a whim one day while shopping with my daughter. A lot of couponing gurus show how to get deals with points and credits that they’ve already built, but this leaves a gap in their audience’s understanding. As I shared my knowledge with my growing subscribers I aimed to fill that gap. My hard work paid off.
My channel blew up.
I’ve spent my whole life working, selling, and saving. I colored notebook paper and folded it into fans to sell in elementary school and then sold snowballs in middle school. As a teenager I lied about my age so I could work at a restaurant to make money. In college I worked two jobs and couponed to save money.
Because I know what it is to work hard, I’m always looking for ways to maximize not just my income, but my whole life.
Becoming Krys the Maximizer should have been a no brainer, but in all reality, it took some drastic measures to break out of the box and fully embody who I was meant to be.
I got fired from my job in August 2019 and said thank you to the vp! It was the best thing to ever happen to me. After seeing first hand how many people’s lives could be changed by couponing through the success of my YouTube channel, I was now more motivated than ever to help people turn their lives around by saving and making money.
I’ve had clients who’ve gone from scraping by on welfare to saving 10,000 in just 6 months and doing so with physical disabilities that you would think would discourage them from trying. I’ve seen them SAVE enough that they start MAKING enough to start a small business. I’ve seen them pay off their cars, and finally afford a vacation.
What’s the secret to their success?
I’m the lady that’s digging through my purse while waiting in line at the checkout because there are parents ahead of me buying diapers and I have a coupon that will save them money. While I’ve learned that not everyone is interested in drastically changing their life by learning to coupon, for the ones who are, I’m here! All you need is a little bit of know-how and some kickass strategy!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
So I started my social media following on a whim on August 19, 2018. I started a YouTube channel after couponing for 10 years and people asking me on Facebook to teach them. I decided with my channel I wanted to be more personable and actually teach people how to coupon ethically and answer their questions. I was posting almost daily for a year, going live and connecting with my subscribers (I call them Maximizers).
I then started inviting them to follow me on IG and when I had a FaceBook group too. Then in 2020 I got invited to create on TikTok but took it serious in 2021 and blew up. I was posting daily, answering questions and connecting.
My advice for those just starting out is to pick 1 platform and go all in. Be you authentically. Use all the features to create content. Use stories daily and if it has short form content, post daily.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
So I was working a 9-5 as a sales recruiter. I was in my 4th year when I started my YouTube channel. Once I saw that I could make money online doing something I loved, OMG I was sold. I went hard. Like I cut back working over 50 hours as a recruiter. I used every extra minute towards my YouTube Channel. I was posting a video almost daily. Shopping at 2-3 stores on Sundays and using that content all week. I loved it so it didn’t feel like work.
I knew I wanted to quit my job so I started saving like crazy, However on my 1 year YouTube Anniversary- August 19, 2019 I hit 1 million channel views and my job fired me.
It was the best thing to happen to me for sure. I hired a business coach, sold my 1st course and created a membership to help women outside of social media. Since then I have made multiple 6 figures by selling my membership, group coaching, masterclasses and workshops!
