We recently connected with Jeffrey Barrows and have shared our conversation below.
Jeffrey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When we both graduated from Marshfield High School in 2002 and later both earned our bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. We both never imagined we would end as barbers back then. Back then, I had a steady job conducting background checks but I was miserable. Eric was bartending at the time, thinking about nursing school. We were both comfortable enough, but something just didn’t feel right.
I remember thinking, I don’t want to look back 10 years from now and say, “I should’ve done this, I should’ve done that.” It was a huge risk giving up the security of 9-to-5 jobs with benefits but one of our best friends suggested we try barbering.
I had cut hair here and there and always loved the vibe of barbershops. Eric was brand new to it, but he was all in from the start. In 2013, we both enrolled at the Massachusetts School of Barbering in Quincy, Ma. After graduating, we started working at Yankee Clipper in Pembroke, Ma. and just a few years later, in 2016, we took a leap and bought the shop rebranding it as Craft Barbering Co.
We haven’t looked back since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At Craft, we’re more than just a place to get a haircut, we’re about connection, confidence, and community. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, detail-oriented cuts in an environment that feels comfortable, creative, and real. Our barbers are craftsmen in every sense of the word. Every fade, beard trim, and conversation is handled with care and pride.
What sets us apart is the culture we’ve built. There’s no ego, no assembly line feel, just a genuine love for the craft and the people who sit in our chairs. We’ve created spaces in Marshfield/Pembroke recently just opened up a shop in downtown Plymouth, Ma that bring together modern technique with an old-school barbershop feel.
What we’re most proud of is seeing how far we’ve come. From two guys leaving stable jobs to build something from the ground up, to now having multiple thriving locations filled with talented barbers who share that same passion.
At the end of the day, Craft Barbering Co. isn’t just a business. It’s a reflection of taking a risk, betting on yourself, and turning something you love into a life’s work. That’s what we hope people feel the moment they walk through our doors and especially when they leave.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For us, the most effective way to grow our clientele has always been through genuine connection and consistency. What we had was a commitment to giving every person who sat in our chair a great haircut and a great experience. Basically word of mouth is what built our foundation, and honestly, it’s still the most powerful tool we have.
We focus on making people feel seen, heard, and taken care of. A clean cut and a good conversation go a long way and people remember that. Social media has also been huge for us. It’s a free tool to use and we try and put out content daily.
Another big part of growth has been investing in our team. When our barbers are happy, motivated, and supported, that energy translates to our clients. You can’t fake that kind of vibe and it’s what makes people keep coming back and tell their friends about us.
So in short, the best way we’ve found to grow is by staying true to who we are. Focusing on quality, consistency, and community. If you build a place people genuinely enjoy being part of, the clientele takes care of itself

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
For us, a huge part of what makes Craft Barbering Co. what it is today comes down to the people behind it. Eric and I go way back, all the way to sixth grade. We grew up together, and through the years we’ve been through just about everything you can imagine, the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We’ve experienced loss together, gone through tough times, and been there for each other through some of life’s hardest moments.
That kind of history builds something stronger than friendship, it’s a brotherhood. When you’ve known someone that long, there’s a level of trust and understanding that doesn’t need to be spoken. That same loyalty and bond we share has carried right into the shop. We treat our business the same way we’ve always treated our friendship with respect, honesty, and a shared drive to keep growing.
