Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yusselly Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Yusselly , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

Every project I’ve done has something that makes them meaningful and unique from one another. A very special one right now would be the Houston’s Dia De Los Muertos Festival 2022 mural. I got the opportunity to do model Johanna Guio’s hair and makeup while photographer David Ramirez captured the image, and artist John Segovia did the official portrait for the festival, which was unveiled at city hall on August 23rd. The portrait will be on display all over the Houston area leading up to the festival that will take place November 5th. I will say though, any project that involves David Ramirez behind the camera, Johanna Guio as the model, and me as the hairstylist and makeup artist. It will definitely be something out of this world.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?

My name is Yusselly Garcia, founder of Aztec Beauty. My journey in the beauty industry started back in 2012 when I discovered my passion for hair and makeup. I was a 14 year old child model, when I fell in love with the creative and artistic side of the beauty industry. It wasn’t until 2014 when I started putting my passion to practice doing my friends’ hair and makeup in school or on the weekends for events. After graduating high school in 2016 and finding the perfect college for me, I decided to turn my passion in to a professional career. I enrolled in San Jacinto College in 2017 where I graduated from and became a licensed cosmetologist in 2018. Thank you to my husband, and my family for supporting me throughout this journey. Ever since, I slowly started to build my business, I specialize in color, cuts, special event hair and makeup, and creative makeup. My favorite thing to do is special events (quinceañeras, weddings, photoshoots), especially creative/editorial photoshoots, where I really get to bring out my creativity and artistic side. Aztec Beauty represents me, my culture, heritage, and my passion for the beauty industry. What sets Aztec Beauty apart from others, is my passion, creativity, artistry, and diversity. I am a part time stylist, full time artist.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

There is many rewarding aspects of being an artist. One if them would be the feeling when I am fully done with the client’s service and seeing their reaction to their hair and/or makeup it’s just wonderful. I even had clients make me cry tears of joy when they see their transformation. You never know what the person is going through, and being able to pamper them even if it’s just a wash and blow dry. Making the person feel good about themselves is definitely a reward. The other would be seeing the final product of a photoshoot. When I see the pictures being posted it feels amazing knowing that I did that. That’s my work, I did the hair and makeup. Seeing it all put together with everyone’s touch of art from me, to the model, to the photographer, we all did that.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?

My goal as a business is to have the opportunity to see my work published, on a front cover, inside a magazine, or a build board. I want people to see it and say “Yusselly from Aztec Beauty did that!” As for my goal as a person, it is to connect with more people, not just in my community but outside of it too. Aztec Beauty is more than just a brand, as I am more than just an artist. I don’t just make people look pretty, I also listen to you, to what you want in beauty and life, I listen to your problems. I am your stylist, makeup artist, beauty advisor, counselor, you name it!
