We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcos Paz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcos below.
Hi Marcos , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I was getting ready for my professional debut out in Las Vegas. It was taking quite some time and nothing was materializing. I had been out there for three months and I was about to go home when the opportunity presented itself to Fight. The only problem was is that I was going to have to go to Mexico . In the van full of strangers, and nobody Knew, essentially by Myself.
But it was either take the risk, or let my dream die out right then and there .

Marcos , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marcos Paz. I am a professional and professional boxing coach. Boxing is in my blood. My father Salvador Paz always had the dream. I’ll be becoming a boxer ever, since entering the Apollo theater in his native El Salvador. But due to lack of support system and resources he was never able to achieve that dream nor even started, but when he came to America, he stumbled across a gym and though now older in age.
He went to go train. All with the intent of learning as much as he could in order to teach me and guide me to becoming who I am at this moment. Which ultimately is being a full-time professional prizefighter.
Along the way, my father also has taught me how to be a trainer. Not to toot my own horn , but as far as having a knowledgeable trainer. My father definitely falls in that category and in turn has schooled me all these years in order to become one as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to learn the lesson of perseverance and creativity. Nothing has been handed to me in Boxing nor as an amateur or as a professional.
Everything I’ve learned, I’ve learned by the grace of God and out of necessity because no one was there to help me or my father. I’ve earned my stripes the hard way. Definitely facing moments in which I’ve wanted to throw in the towel, but the fire within my heart never died out and always kept me going. Finding ways to reach certain goals when there was no way.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Going the extra mile and always delivering on my word. As in any business credibility is super important and follows you wherever you go, whether it’s lack of credibility or an abundance of it.
In an industry, such as boxing. It doesn’t have the best reputation for having the most upright people. Not to say that I don’t make mistakes in life or that I am a saint. But one thing I am for sure is a man of my word and of genuine intention.
