Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deja Stewart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Deja, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project to me has to be the photoshooI did earlier this year called “A colourful ascension.” It was the first project I directed myself, and the message was to highlight my vunerability with the fear of success. The fear of your “gifts” and the change that comes with claiming them. At that time it was important to me to not let that fear overtake me, but to embrace it. Ironically it took me a whole month to post it, and I was posting other content because I was a bit nervous showing a more vunerable side of me. However, I decided to make the shoot become my ministry, and I felt so much better once I followed through with releasing it. I was super proud that I showed up for myself, and I felt beyond blessed to receive the love i did.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello! My name is Deja Amour Stewart. I was inrtroduced to modeling in 2018, when I became a brand ambassador for a close friends clothing line. I’ve always been into creative arts, whether it be music, theatre, fashion etc. I ultimately desire to curate a space that invites vunerability through art and spirtiual conversation. I offer modeling and creative directing/assisting services. Im currently in the process of going down new entreprenual avenues creatively and its all very new but very exciting.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Overall support, showing love to other artists and understanding that we are all human. Expression is very important to us as creative beings, so just reaching out to other artists you may admire helps alot with letting us all feel connected. If you know an artist, send them love and encoragement whenever you can because the journey is never linear. Alot of the times we express ourselves through the art, and revealing that to the world is beautiful but can be scary at times. We all can learn so much from one another through genuine love and respect for the craft.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Goal based thinking. I think the goals that I had before kept me in a box mentally. They were very very specific, and if it did not look exactly like how it looked in my head then I struggled with giving myself flowers for the growth I did make. Soon enough realized the more I learn about my self the more my “goals” changed. Therefore I shifted my perspective to assignment based thinking to stay commited to my present self. My assignment is to represent the goodness of God through my gifts. I am then able to appreciate my blessings and be greatful for opportunites that are given to me without fixed expectation.
