Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Walter “J.R.” Brooks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Walter “J.R.”, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken recently was relocating to the Atlanta area. The decision didn’t come easily—it meant leaving behind familiarity, stability, and the network I had carefully built over the years. But deep down, I knew it was necessary. Atlanta has become one of the most powerful hubs in the music industry, and if I wanted to continue growing, evolving, and expanding my reach, I had to be where the opportunities were.
The move wasn’t just about me—it affected my entire family. We were stepping into the unknown, starting fresh in a city where I’d have to rebuild my business and connections from the ground up. It was intimidating, but also exciting. Each challenge became a reminder of why I took the leap—to create something greater, to push my limits, and to show that growth often requires starting over.
Now, as the pieces begin to fall into place, I can see that the risk was worth it. Sometimes, the only way to move forward is to bet on yourself—and take that leap of faith.

Walter “J.R.”, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may not know me, I’m JRtheCEO — an Award-winning music producer, songwriter, composer, and mix engineer. My journey started with a deep love for sound and storytelling — turning raw ideas into records that move people. Over the years, that passion evolved into a purpose: helping artists, creators, and brands develop their sonic identity and bring their visions to life.
I’m the founder of Diamond Sound Worldwide Entertainment Group, a full-service music production and entertainment company specializing in music production, mixing, mastering, songwriting, sync licensing, and artist development. Through our studios in Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, and New York, we’ve worked with talent across genres — from emerging artists to major names — all with one mission: to deliver world-class quality and results that connect.
What sets me apart is the way I approach creativity like a CEO — balancing art with strategy. I understand both the emotional side of music and the business behind it. My clients come to me not only for my ear and experience, but for my ability to help them build sustainable careers, not just songs.
I’m most proud of the legacy I’m building — empowering others to rise. Whether it’s through my online course “Mix Your First Track in 30 Days,” or my upcoming mindset guide “The Grammy Mindset Playbook,” my goal is to teach aspiring creators how to take control of their craft and success.
At the core, JRtheCEO is more than a name — it’s a movement. It’s about excellence, execution, and elevation. I want my followers, fans, and clients to know that when you work with me, you’re not just getting a service — you’re stepping into a standard.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely. My mission has always been to empower creators to turn their passion into purpose and their talent into legacy. Everything I do—whether it’s producing records, mixing tracks, mentoring upcoming artists, or building new business ventures—is rooted in helping others unlock their full potential.
I believe creativity is more than just art; it’s a form of leadership. My goal is to show that with discipline, vision, and the right mindset, you can build a sustainable career doing what you love. Through my brand and platforms, I’m focused on creating opportunities, educating the next generation of music professionals, and setting a new standard of excellence in both sound and business.
At the end of the day, my creative journey is about impact over fame, purpose over trends, and legacy over limits.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the biggest tests of my resilience came when I made the decision to relocate to the Atlanta area. On paper, it might have looked like just another move—but in reality, it was a complete restart. I was leaving behind a solid foundation, a trusted network, and years of relationships I had built in other cities to begin again in one of the most competitive music markets in the world.
It wasn’t easy. There were moments where I had to rebuild my client base from scratch, reintroduce myself in new circles, and prove my value all over again. But instead of seeing it as a setback, I treated it as a reset—an opportunity to evolve, expand, and reach higher levels of success.
That experience reminded me that resilience isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about embracing them with purpose. Every obstacle forced me to sharpen my skills, rethink my strategy, and trust in my vision even more. Today, I can confidently say that move was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because it pushed me to grow not just as a producer and entrepreneur, but as a leader.
