Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Anne Etonga. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Anne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
When I first began my chiropractic journey, I worked at The Joint Chiropractic. It was there that I built so many meaningful connections with patients who trusted me with their health and their healing. I poured my heart into every adjustment, every conversation, and every moment of care. Over time, those same patients began to feel more like family. They opened up to me, they trusted me with their stories, and they believed in my ability to help them feel better.
When the time came for me to step out on my own, I was both excited and terrified. I knew I had a vision of the type of care experience I wanted to create, one that went beyond quick visits and truly focused on healing the whole person. But in the beginning, I did not have a full office or even a space of my own. I rented small rooms, sometimes even shared spaces, just to continue serving my patients. It was humble, but it was mine, and I made sure every person who came in felt seen and cared for.
What touched my heart the most was that so many of those same patients from The Joint followed me through every transition. They found me no matter where I was working and continued to support me, even when the spaces were small and simple. Their loyalty and belief in me were the reasons I kept going. Every adjustment felt like another small step toward something greater.
The day I finally opened the doors to my own complete space was overwhelming in the best way. No more renting rooms or moving from place to place. This was mine, my name on the door, my equipment, my vision brought to life. When I saw my first patient walk in that day, someone who had been with me since the beginning, I felt tears in my eyes. That moment represented more than earning my first dollar under One Eighty Chiropractic. It was the realization of years of hard work, faith, and dedication finally coming together. It was proof that when you care deeply, people feel it, and they will follow you anywhere.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As an entrepreneur and the owner of One Eighty Chiropractic, I’m always looking for resources that challenge my thinking, expand my perspective, and help me grow both personally and professionally. One book that has profoundly influenced the way I approach business and entrepreneurship is You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero.
This book isn’t just about finances — it’s about mindset. Sincero encourages readers to identify and confront the beliefs that limit them, whether that’s fear of failure, self-doubt, or a scarcity mentality. For me, it was a wake-up call to step into boldness, embrace opportunities, and trust in my ability to create a thriving business. Her guidance on taking decisive, confident action has directly shaped how I approach growing One Eighty Chiropractic, from marketing strategies to building partnerships, and even the way I interact with patients.
The principles in the book are particularly relevant for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and startups because it emphasizes clarity of vision, ownership of your actions, and the courage to go after the growth you want. It teaches that success isn’t just about working hard — it’s about aligning your mindset, energy, and actions with your goals. For small business owners like myself, this has been transformative, helping me make strategic decisions with confidence while staying true to my values and mission.
Another resource that has deeply influenced my mindset is the Joel Osteen podcast. His messages consistently remind me of the power of faith, perseverance, and maintaining a positive, God-centered outlook. Listening to his teachings motivates me to approach both life and business with hope and confidence, trusting that challenges are opportunities for growth and that God’s guidance is at the center of every decision I make.
These principles extend directly into my work at One Eighty Chiropractic. Every patient interaction, every adjustment, every recommendation is informed not just by technique, but by a mindset of care, service, and purpose.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that I wasn’t good enough. As the only Black student in my class at Palmer College of Chiropractic-West in San Jose, California, I often felt isolated. There were very few Black students at the school or even in the surrounding area, which only reinforced my imposter syndrome. I constantly questioned whether I truly belonged in the chiropractic field and whether I was capable of succeeding.
That self-doubt was further compounded when I struggled to pass my board exams, failing multiple times before finally achieving success. Each setback made me question my intelligence, my skills, and my ability to thrive in this profession. The pressure to excel—especially as one of the few Black students pursuing chiropractic—felt overwhelming. I convinced myself that because I didn’t pass on my first attempt, I wasn’t meant to be in this field.
It wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta that my perspective shifted. For the first time, I was surrounded by successful Black chiropractors who were not only thriving but making a real impact in their communities. Seeing others who looked like me excel in this profession helped me realize that I wasn’t alone and that my presence in this field was both necessary and valuable. The more I worked with patients, the more I recognized that I wasn’t just capable—I was highly skilled. As my patient base grew and my social media following expanded, it became clear that I was making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Overcoming imposter syndrome was a process, but I ultimately learned that lack of representation does not equate to lack of ability. Just because I didn’t see many people who looked like me in this profession didn’t mean I didn’t belong. Just because I didn’t pass my boards on the first try didn’t mean I wasn’t meant for this career. I had to stop questioning my worth and instead embrace my expertise, passion, and commitment to my patients. Today, I use my platform to educate, inspire, and serve as the representation I once needed to see.
