We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Plant Lady a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
The Plant Lady , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I took was choosing to bet on myself again. I’m originally from New York, where I worked full-time in the beauty industry. When I moved to Charlotte, I assumed I’d continue that success, but I had no clientele and had to start from zero. I ended up pivoting into healthcare for several years for stability, but I knew it wasn’t my purpose.
During COVID, I reached a point where I couldn’t ignore my passion anymore. I took the risk of leaving my secure job to return to being fully self-employed. I went from making around $2,000 a month to scaling my business into a six-figure brand. That risk taught me that sometimes you have to be willing to let go of “safe” to grow into your potential.

The Plant Lady , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was raised in the beauty industry my mother owned a salon, and I grew up in it, starting as her shampoo girl. That experience taught me not only how to care for hair, but how to care for people. I later attended the High School of Fashion Industries in New York, where I studied visual merchandising and developed the creative foundation that now shapes my brand.
Today, I run a luxury hair brand specializing in high-quality extensions, wigs, and holistic haircare. Long before “clean beauty” became a trend, I was focused on using natural products and promoting healthy hair from the inside out. My goal is to help women feel confident without compromising the health of their hair or scalp.
What sets my brand apart is the blend of artistry, and intention. I understand hair from a professional, creative, and wellness-centered perspective. I’m proud of building this business from the ground up . At the core of everything I do is the belief that beauty should be healthy, empowering, and true to you.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I started in Charlotte, I had no clients, so I turned to social media. I posted three times a day, sharing videos of my work and holistic haircare techniques like steaming with aloe vera. Using hashtags and platforms like Instagram, Facebook and StyleSeat, I grew my audience organically, turning followers into clients.
My advice: be consistent, showcase your unique skills, and provide real value. Authenticity and persistence are what build a loyal following.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation was a combination of a niche skill set, consistency, and authenticity. I focus on delivering high-quality, natural, and holistic haircare while educating clients on healthy hair practices. Sharing my knowledge and results on social media, showing my process, and genuinely caring about each client’s experience built trust and word-of-mouth referrals. Over time, people recognized my brand for expertise, reliability, and a commitment to empowering women through beautiful, healthy hair.
