Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darius Dennis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Darius, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Right after graduating high school in Memphis, TN, I made the bold decision to take a leap of faith and move to Atlanta to chase my dreams in the entertainment industry. I didn’t wait for the “perfect time” — I packed up and left the very next day after graduation, determined to make something of myself. That risk paid off when I landed my very first job on P-Valley Season 2 as a Production Assistant. It was my introduction to the fast-paced world of television, and it confirmed that I was exactly where I was meant to be — building my career from the ground up, one set at a time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Darius Dennis, and I’m a television producer, creative entrepreneur, and founder of KDN Productions, LLC, a full-service production company based in Atlanta. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, I took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta the day after graduating high school to pursue my dream of working in the entertainment industry. My journey started with my very first job on P-Valley Season 2 as a Production Assistant — and from there, I fell in love with the art of storytelling and the power of production. Over time, I’ve built a reputation for creating authentic, compelling content across reality television, digital media, and scripted storytelling that connects with audiences on a deeper level.
Through KDN Productions, I develop and produce original series, podcasts, and branded content that highlight culture, creativity, and real human experiences. What sets me apart is my passion for bridging the gap between vision and execution — turning raw ideas into powerful on-screen moments. Beyond production, I’m also deeply committed to giving back through my nonprofit organization, The Producer Collection. The Producer Collection is dedicated to empowering the next generation of film and television professionals by providing access, resources, and industry-ready attire. We supply high-quality, functional on-set wear for all departments—ensuring crews are equipped, confident, and unified on set. We also create pathways for aspiring producers, directors, and creatives through mentorship, education, and hands-on opportunities, helping them break into the industry and build lasting careers.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come by trusting my vision and creating opportunities not just for myself, but for others who share the same passion. My goal is to continue producing impactful work that inspires, informs, and opens doors for the next generation of storytellers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a point in my journey when the industry slowed down, and I had to make a tough decision — pivot or pause. As someone who thrives in production, the quiet seasons can be challenging. Instead of waiting for the next call sheet, I decided to take control of my own narrative. That’s when I started developing my own personal projects and original concepts under KDN Productions, LLC. It was a chance to flex my creativity, sharpen my producing skills, and build my brand outside of traditional set work. At the same time, I picked up a regular 9–5 job to stay grounded and financially stable while continuing to invest in my dreams. That period taught me discipline, balance, and the importance of betting on myself even when the industry wasn’t moving. Looking back, that pivot was one of the best things I ever did — it pushed me to become more self-sufficient as a creator and reminded me that purpose doesn’t pause just because the opportunities slow down.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I first started KDN Productions, LLC, there wasn’t a big investor or a huge financial backer behind me — it was all me, my vision, and my hustle. I used the income I earned from working on set as a Production Assistant and other freelance roles in television to fund the foundation of my business. Every check I got, I reinvested a portion of it into building KDN — whether that meant purchasing equipment, securing business licenses, or developing marketing materials to establish the brand. When the industry slowed down, I worked a regular 9–5 job to keep things moving and to ensure I could continue funding my creative projects without losing momentum. It wasn’t easy, but that process taught me how to build with what I have and make every dollar count. My business was literally funded through consistency, sacrifice, and faith — proving that you don’t need a million-dollar investor to start, just the drive to make it happen.
