We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liyah Jammeh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Liyah, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time, I think I’d still start my business, DVN ALN, exactly when I did — in 2022. It was during the height of COVID, a time when the world was standing still, and people were forced to slow down and really think about their health and well-being. For me, that was a turning point. I saw so many people looking for ways to strengthen their immune systems and take better care of themselves, and I knew we had something that could truly help — natural products that supported respiratory health and boosted immunity.
It wasn’t an easy time to start a company. Manufacturing delays, shipping challenges, and global uncertainty made everything more complicated. But I’ve always believed that things happen when they’re meant to. Maybe if I had started earlier, the process would’ve been smoother — but I also think the timing gave DVN ALN a deeper purpose. We weren’t just selling supplements; we were helping people take control of their health when they needed it most. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. That season of uncertainty pushed me to be more resourceful, more patient, and more connected to the “why” behind the brand.

Liyah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the founder of DVN ALN, a wellness brand rooted in the belief that everything we need to heal and thrive already exists in nature. My journey into the health and wellness industry came naturally — I’ve always had a passion for holistic living and helping others feel their best from the inside out. Before starting my company, I spent over 20 years in the service industry, where I learned the true value of dedication, empathy, and hard work. I’ve always thrived when serving and supporting others, and that spirit naturally carried over into building my own brand.
I started working at just 14, and my drive and independence have always been two of my greatest strengths. I’ve learned to follow my heart and pursue my desires — whether that means building a business or moving across the world to chase new opportunities. Becoming an entrepreneur has been one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. It’s taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of adaptability. There are ups and downs — sometimes you win, sometimes you lose — but every challenge brings a new lesson. What matters most is staying solution-oriented and continuously finding ways to grow and improve.
At DVN ALN, we create premium, natural supplements made with pure, high-quality ingredients — no fillers, no additives, just what your body truly needs. Our products, including Sea Moss, Bladderwrack, Ashwagandha, and Chlorella, are designed to boost immunity, enhance skin health, improve energy, and support overall wellness. What sets us apart is our commitment to transparency, simplicity, and real results — everything we make is backed by science and guided by intention.
I’m incredibly proud of how far the brand has come, built on trust, authenticity, and a genuine desire to make a difference. To me, DVN ALN isn’t just about supplements — it’s a lifestyle rooted in balance, mindfulness, and self-care, empowering people to take charge of their health and live life with purpose.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was the glamorized image society creates about being a business owner. There’s this idea that once you start a business, you’ve “made it” — that success happens overnight, and entrepreneurship automatically equals wealth and freedom. But the reality is very different. Most of us start from absolutely nothing, and it takes years, sometimes decades, to build something meaningful and sustainable.
When I launched my brand, I quickly realized that being a business owner isn’t just about the highlights — it’s about the persistence during the silent moments when nothing seems to be moving forward. I had to learn to trust the process, even when progress felt slow or invisible. Success doesn’t come from constant wins; it comes from discipline, consistency, and resilience when things get tough. The journey is rarely glamorous, but it’s deeply rewarding when you stay true to your vision and keep pushing forward.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What really helped build our reputation in the market was staying true to our niche — keeping wellness simple, honest, and effective. At DVN ALN, we believe health doesn’t have to be complicated. Just like in the old days, everything your body needs can be found in clean, natural ingredients — without chemicals, fillers, or anything that causes inflammation. We focused on creating products that not only deliver real results but also resonate with people who value both aesthetics and wellness. Our branding reflects that philosophy — minimalist, elegant, and transparent.
Every detail, from the formulation to the design, was made with intention. That authenticity and clean, modern look quickly captured attention and set us apart. People recognized that our products were not only beautiful on the outside but pure, powerful, and effective on the inside — and that’s what built our reputation.
