Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda Frock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking a risk, that is truthfully what got me here. A big, life changing, no one truly believing in you but yourself (and maybe one or two others once they see your kinda crazy), multiples trying to convince you not to, kind of risk. It’s how I am here. But, a dear friend at the time once said to me “when pigs fly”, so you fly.. and here we are. Most of our lives we are just trying to figure it all out you know.. and part of that is told where to go, what to be, and what to do when we grow up. But at the age of 19, when you are heading off to college, do you even really know yourself? I knew one thing.. I loved to help people, and I still do. So, I went to school for Social Work, even got my Masters and worked at a job that at the time I truly loved. But, something still felt missing, that I wasn’t living up to my full potential. So, after some serious soul searching and attempting to figure it all out, I quit my job to go to school Esthetician School to “do make-up”. Part of this schooling, the main part though was skin care.. and I had never even had a facial before in my life.. let alone really take care of my skin (and shall I say.. wear sunscreen.. gasp!). Through this schooling, I realized that although I loved make-up, that wasn’t it either.. it was the actual facial process that I loved. I was thriving, I was feeling my passion come to life, I was becoming the best version of myself. Once school graduated, I worked at a dear friends place and gained some experience, but that knock inside just kept on ticking, and I knew I still needed more. I opened my own place, Skin Fitness, in fall of 2019. It has truly been the biggest and the best risk I have taken. But now, I get to do what I love everyday, and still do a little therapy in the mix during your facial experience. I get to make people feel better, help them increase their confidence, help them feel and be the best versions of themselves.. and what a fun rewarding job that is.

Amanda , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Amanda, I was born and raised in Berlin, MD where I still reside with my husband, two daughters, and two dogs. I have my masters degree in social work, and I am a licensed esthetician. Through a little risk and passion, I own my own business called Skin Fitness in Berlin. At Skin Fitness myself and two of my estie besties provide facial services such as hydrofacials, dermaplane facials, chemical peels, and helping those with any need or concern such as aging, acne, pigment issues, and even those just wanting to relax and feel good. We also offer waxing and lash services.
Skin Fitness evolved from finding myself, and it embodies what I wanted to provide in life.. a wrap around approach to feel good from the inside out. We work hard to help you feel that best version of yourself, and adapt to your needs to get you there. A lot of people think that facials are silly.. if they’ve never had one at Skin Fitness. It’s a mini therapy session, it’s relaxing, it’s feeling good, it’s working on your confidence, it’s letting go, and it’s helping you reach your skin care goals.
I think one of the main things that sets us apart is being honest and open, meeting people where they are at, being realistic, and just being yourself helps set you apart from others. As silly as it sounds, social media takes us in so many different directions and forms these days, and just being you is often enough. Putting yourself out there, hitting the ground running, letting people see you for you.. as silly, goofy, and out there as you may be.
I am so proud of Skin Fitness and how far it has come. I never thought that I would be here with it, honestly. I am forever grateful and thankful for all of the moments, all of the struggles, and all of the people who helped to lead me here, whither it was a positive push or negative nudge.. it’s all impactful, it all just matters on how you handle it.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Hitting the pavement and truly putting yourself there. Introducing yourself. Not being afraid to look silly or feel annoying by always telling people what you do and where you do it. People make fun of business cards, but I constantly leave them everywhere.. especially at restaurants. They (maybe that 15 year old bus boy) had to read the business card to know they wanted to throw it away.. so now my name is engraved in their mind somewhere. Maybe they remember that name when they want to get their mom or girlfriend a gift card in a couple months.
And truthfully, just being yourself. Allowing people to see who you are. Learning to just appreciate and be grateful for where you’re at. Learn peoples names, know their stories, and figure out how you can play a positive impactful role in their life.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Besides the obvious, getting your hands on as many faces and skin types and concerns as possible.. I think one of the main things that can help someone truly be successful is just learning how to talk to people, and truly learning how to listen. I think that having my degree in Social Work truly helps me be successful in this field. People want to feel seen, people want to feel heard, people want someone to care, people want someone to resonate with them. Understanding that through conversation and listening, that the reason for their most recent breakout could be because they are super stressed at their job or their significant other isn’t doing enough at home. It all reflects from the inside out. Being there for them and making sure they know that they are not just another client. And really, that’s how I feel about everyone of mine.. they’re not just clients anymore, they are friends and family.
