We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tay Katour a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tay , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far has definitely been releasing my first music EP, The Opposite of Toxic. As an independent artist, I had to do everything myself — from budgeting and planning to marketing and promotion. I even traveled to New York City to record for the first time, which was such a big moment for me creatively.
But what really made it meaningful was everything that went wrong behind the scenes. There were a lot of setbacks — some of my tracks weren’t even finished in time for release, and there were moments where I questioned if I should delay everything. But after putting in so much money, effort, and emotion, I decided to move forward and release it anyway on Valentine’s Day.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was real — and that made it special. The whole experience taught me how to trust the process, believe in my vision, and keep pushing even when things don’t go exactly as planned. Seeing my music out in the world after all that was one of the most rewarding moments of my

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who may not know me, my name is Tay Katour — and Tay Katour isn’t just a brand, it’s me. It represents everything I’m growing into — the artist, the creative, and the woman behind the journey.
I actually started out wanting to be a model, and that dream led me to start building my platform on Instagram. Through that, I learned how to express myself, build a community, and open doors in the entertainment industry. Over time, I’ve continued to grow, evolve, and form meaningful connections that have helped shape my path.
I’ll be honest — I don’t have it all figured out yet. But I have faith in God’s plan and trust that everything I’m doing now is preparing me for what’s next. Whether it’s through my music, my visuals, or my creative direction, I want my work to reflect authenticity, faith, and growth.
What sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to show the process — the imperfect parts, the lessons, and the wins that come with building yourself from the ground up. Releasing my first EP, The Opposite of Toxic, was a huge moment for me. It reminded me that success isn’t about everything going perfectly — it’s about pushing forward, even when things don’t go as planned.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that Tay Katour is real. It’s not a manufactured image — it’s my story, my evolution, and my truth

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the freedom to express myself and connect with people on a deeper level. I love being able to take real emotions and experiences — the highs, the heartbreaks, the lessons — and turn them into something that others can feel and relate to.
It’s powerful knowing that my words, my sound, or even my visuals can touch someone or make them feel understood. That’s what keeps me going — those moments when people tell me a song or post spoke to them, or helped them through something.
Being an artist has also taught me so much about myself. Every project, every setback, every win reminds me why I do this — not just for recognition, but for growth and purpose. There’s something really special about watching your ideas come to life and knowing that what started in your mind can reach and inspire others.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Losing family is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. Grief has a way of changing you — it tests your strength and your purpose. But even through those moments of pain and confusion, I’ve learned how to keep pushing forward.
There were times when I wanted to step back from everything, but music and creativity became my outlet — a way to express what I couldn’t always say out loud. Every time I create, it reminds me that I’m still here for a reason. That resilience comes from knowing my loved ones would want me to keep going, keep growing, and keep shining in my purpose.
Pushing through loss taught me that resilience isn’t about pretending everything is okay — it’s about showing up anyway, even when your heart is heavy. That’s what keeps me grounded and fuels everything I do as an artist.
