Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anne Boodheshwar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Anne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Growing up, I was surrounded by artistic women in my family, from my mother and her sisters to my grandmother and great-aunt. The ability to see something and think “I can do that” was ingrained in my upbringing. During my junior and senior years in high school, I had a wonderful art teacher who encouraged me to think outside the box and experiment with a variety of techniques to bring my ideas to their full potential. It was during these classes that ownership of my creativity really started to blossom. I knew I wanted to work in a creative field, but how that would translate into a career was something I had not yet figured out. My teacher would bring in artistic professionals for us to meet. It was during one of these sessions that I learned about Art Therapy. For me, that was a moment of clarity. Discovering a field where I could use both my creative side and my desire to help others in one profession was a game-changer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After earning my B.S. in Art Therapy, I applied the knowledge I had gained to a variety of populations. From teenage girls in a group home to Seniors at a community center and elementary and middle school-aged children at after-school programs. While each group was different and fulfilling in its own way, helping others discover that the creative process doesn’t have to be intimidating but enjoyable has been one of my driving focuses. By teaching and demonstrating the foundations of art, I hope that I have been able to share my love of creating with those I have worked with.
During this time, I continued to work on my own art as much as a busy working mother of two can! Now that my daughters are adulting, I have been focusing more on creating and sharing my art publicly. Bringing my ideas to life in oil paint has been my primary focus and continues to bring me joy in this second phase of my life!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am constantly inspired by the beauty around me and in finding ways to express what I see and feel. I am currently focused on strengthening my skills as a painter and taking back time each day to focus on my art. When I am focused on a project, my brain can shut out the outside noise. Being able to create a safe place to create and express myself has been invaluable to my own mental health.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
For myself, putting ideas onto a canvas is the easy part of the journey; it is the sharing of work that is the hardest. As a creative person, you put a lot of yourself into your work, and when you share it, you are allowing other people to “judge” you, to decide if your work should be considered “art” or not. Pushing through the intimidation and continuing to share your work is both courageous and a necessary step to pursuing a career in this world. I hope that by sharing my work, I can inspire other creatives to continue following their dreams of finding their audience. It is never too late to chase your dreams!
