We recently connected with Christina Merrion and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I’ve always been interested in photography since I was little. Back when disposable cameras, and Polaroids were popular. Initially, I picked a camera back up as a way to make money in between me trying to find a job, and going to grad school. I really enjoyed shooting sports, and in 2017, I shot my first concert, so that’s when I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
One of my favorite J. Cole lyrics is, “They say anything’s possible, you gotta dream like you’ve never seen obstacles.” That’s my motto when it comes to success.
Christina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Photography has always been a hobby of mine. About 5 years ago, I realized I could turn it into a career. Over the years, I’ve photographed sporting events at the high school, collegiate, and professional level. I photograph concerts/music festivals now as well. I have only shot about 7-8 shows, but I really enjoy concert photography because I love music.
Recently, I looking at some of my very first photos versus now, and I’m just most proud of my growth overall. I would like to get to a point of when you see my work, you know exactly that I did it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As a photographer, a lot of times we risk living in the moment, so everybody can relive a moment. Sounds weird not wanting to “be” in the moment, but its pretty rewarding. Pretty dope knowing that a photo that you took can help someone remember exactly where they were, and what they were doing when it was taken.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yeah, I wish I would’ve networked more earlier in my career. Networking has led to me meeting some pretty cool people from all over, and it definitely helps with opportunities. Sometimes, it’s all about who you know, and not what you know, or how good you are.
