Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paige McCalmon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paige, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Growing up with a father who was a small business owner & a mother who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, I learned early on the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of taking calculated risks. Watching him build something from the ground up instilled in me both a respect for entrepreneurship and a belief that success is something you create—not something handed to you. Those lessons stayed with me as I pursued my nursing career and eventually decided to start my own practice.
I knew it would be challenging but I wanted to create a space that was welcoming for my patients. A safe space. I started in Family Medicine and almost immediately added Aesthetics to my services. I saw the need for people to feel good, look good, and regain confidence in a world that constantly tells them that they aren’t good enough.
In the early days, the steps felt daunting: securing financing, finding the right location, obtaining the necessary licenses and insurances, creating protocols and compliance systems, and building relationships with vendors and laboratories. I wore every hat—provider, administrator, marketer, and janitor on some days. One of the biggest challenges was finding the balance between maintaining quality patient care and learning the business side of healthcare—everything from billing and credentialing to staffing and marketing.
There were moments of doubt, of course—times when I questioned if the long hours and uncertainty were worth it. But each obstacle taught me something invaluable. I learned to surround myself with a trusted team, to delegate where I could, and to never lose sight of the “why” that started it all. I opened a business in a town where I did not know anyone and turned over 1 million in revenue on year 2. I opened a second location near my hometown last year. This has only been possible because I truly do care about my people and their outcomes. Once they meet me, they know that.
If I could do anything differently, I would have sought mentorship sooner. Having someone who had already walked this path could have saved me from a few early mistakes and given me the confidence to scale faster.
My advice to young professionals considering starting their own practice is this: be prepared to work harder than you ever have, but also know that the reward is worth it. Stay true to your vision, invest in your education beyond clinical skills (learn business, marketing, and leadership), and don’t be afraid to take that first leap. Every successful practice starts with a single decision to begin.
Paige, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always known that I wanted to take care of people. Coming from a father who was a business owner, I grew up surrounded by the mindset that if you want something done right — you build it yourself. That foundation, combined with my passion for medicine and helping others, is what led me to create Premier Family Practice & The Glow Bar Medspa.
My journey began in family practice, where I saw firsthand how much people needed a provider who would truly listen. Over time, I also discovered how deeply confidence and wellness are connected. I realized I could help people not only feel better on the inside, but also love what they see on the outside. That’s where The Glow Bar was born — a place where patients can feel heard, cared for, and confident in their own skin.
I often say I give people their confidence back. My patients come to see me for so many reasons — to celebrate life’s milestones, to feel refreshed after going through something difficult like a divorce, or simply because they want to invest in themselves. Whether it’s lip filler to accentuate their natural beauty, hormone therapy to help them regain energy, or primary care support to improve their health, I approach every person as a whole — mind, body, and spirit.
What sets me apart is how personally I take each patient’s journey. I’m not the kind of provider who just writes a prescription and sends someone on their way. If I need to fight insurance for a medication my patient deserves, I will. If there’s a new technique that can improve outcomes, I’ll travel across the country to learn it. In fact, I invest thousands of dollars every year into advanced training and certifications so that I can offer my patients the very best, most cutting-edge care. This year, I was honored to be recognized as an affiliate for the Master Injector Series, traveling to Toronto, Miami, and Dallas to learn from some of the most respected experts in aesthetics.
I’m incredibly proud to show people that you don’t have to travel to a big city to receive world-class care. That’s why my newest billboard says, “World-Class Aesthetics, Right Here in Columbus.” My goal has always been to bring exceptional, advanced medicine and aesthetics home — to make confidence and quality care accessible right here in our community.
At the heart of it all, what drives me is connection. I genuinely love what I do, and I love my patients. You can’t teach someone to care deeply — it’s something that comes from within. Every smile I help restore, every patient who tells me they feel like themselves again — that’s what keeps me going.
For anyone considering visiting Premier Family Practice & The Glow Bar Medspa, I want them to know this: you will be cared for, heard, and treated like family. Whether you’re here to restore your health, boost your confidence, or simply feel like your best self again, my team and I are here to make that happen — with compassion, expertise, and heart.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, what’s helped me build my reputation within my market comes down to two things: my heart and my art. I pour everything I have into both. My before-and-after results speak for themselves — but it’s the emotion behind those transformations that truly defines my brand. Seeing a patient’s face light up when they look in the mirror and feel like they’ve turned back the clock twenty years… that moment never gets old. It’s everything to me.
I always ask new patients, “How did you hear about me?” and almost every time, they say something like, “I saw one of your clients, and she looks amazing,” or, “My friend said she finally feels like herself again after coming to you.” That word-of-mouth connection — real people sharing their experiences — has been the most powerful form of growth for my practice.
I’ve also worked hard to build a strong presence on social media. Between my personal Instagram @injectorp_thefnp
, where I’ve grown to over 15,000 followers, and our business Facebook page with more than 10,000 followers, I’ve been able to showcase my work and my approach to aesthetics to a much wider audience. It’s allowed people to not only see the results, but also feel the authenticity and care behind what I do.
What’s most humbling is that patients travel from other states just to sit in my chair. That’s something I’ll never take for granted. Every single visit — whether it’s a local patient or someone flying in — is an opportunity to make someone feel confident and cared for. And I think that’s exactly what’s built my reputation: consistent results, genuine connection, and an unwavering love for what I do.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
When it comes to managing a team and maintaining high morale, I believe it starts with being the kind of leader who’s willing to do every role yourself. My team knows that I don’t just delegate — I understand firsthand what it takes to do their jobs. That mutual respect creates a strong foundation of trust and teamwork.
I’m very intentional about how I hire. Every person who joins my team is chosen not just for their skillset, but for how they’ll fit into our culture. We spend so much time together that it’s important everyone feels like they’re part of something special — because they are.
I go out of my way to recognize and appreciate my staff. Whether it’s a simple compliment, celebrating wins, or surprising them with lunch or small gifts, I make sure they know how valued they are. Those small gestures matter. I also keep the environment fun and laid back — we laugh, we support each other, and we genuinely enjoy coming to work.
Managing a team isn’t always easy, but when your people feel appreciated, seen, and excited to be part of the mission, everything runs smoother. I encourage my staff every day to do their best — not out of pressure, but because they feel proud of the work they’re doing and the impact we’re making together.
