Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daisy Peña. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daisy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My journey with jewelry making began unexpectedly during the 2012 holiday season. I came across a macramé bracelet tutorial on Pinterest and decided to recreate them as personalized gifts for loved ones. That small spark turned into something much bigger, and I soon realized how much joy creating brought me.
I taught myself through trial and error, endless online tutorials, and a few workshops, but mostly through curiosity and persistence. The early days were both exciting and messy. I was working in the medical field then, a structured and technical environment, so diving into something creative felt freeing. Every mistake became a lesson that refined my craft and helped me discover what truly resonated with me.
Over time, I fell in love with working with metal. There’s something powerful about its symbolism and permanence; you can say so much, and nothing at all, with a single piece. I love the transformation that happens when raw materials become something personal and meaningful that someone can wear every day. Hand stamping has become one of my favorite parts of the process, allowing me to add a personal touch to each design. Every piece is made to order, which lets me focus on quality, intention, and connection in every creation.
Learning this craft taught me far more than technique. It strengthened my attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving. It also pushed me to develop skills I never expected to need like web design, photography, editing, marketing, and even business management. Running a creative business means wearing many hats and learning as you go.
One of the biggest challenges has been overcoming imposter syndrome and navigating the rising costs of metal. I’ve tested countless suppliers over the years to source the best materials possible, even as prices fluctuate. Looking back, I think finding a mentor or connecting with other makers might have sped up my growth, but the slow, hands-on process has helped to shaped my style. Growth takes time, and every trial, mistake, and late night at the workbench has deepened my appreciation for the craft.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In my previous answer, I talked about how I fell in love with creating jewelry. That creative spark eventually grew into my online jewelry shop, Button Daisy, where I create minimalist, made-to-order jewelry pieces crafted from high-quality 14k gold-filled and sterling silver metals. Every piece is simple, modern, and personal, designed to be worn effortlessly through all of life’s seasons.
I’m inspired by meaningful moments, simplicity, and motherhood. I love creating pieces that say something; sometimes in an obvious way, and sometimes in a quiet, hidden way known only to the person wearing it. My goal is for each design to bring a sense of joy and confidence to whoever wears it.
Those who connect with Button Daisy often live full, busy lives balancing work, family, and everything in between. They value quality, simplicity, and a timeless design. I create for people who want jewelry that feels personal, pieces that can be worn every day without thought, yet still hold deep meaning.
What sets Button Daisy apart is the made-to-order process, the focus on personalization, and the commitment to size inclusivity and quality craftsmanship. I believe jewelry should feel as personal as the person wearing it, which is why every piece is made to order, allowing for adjustments like chain length or fit so it’s comfortable and made just for you. From thoughtful materials to the final polish, every detail is created by hand with care.
I’m most proud of the connections that have grown from this small business. Hearing how a bracelet marked a milestone or how a necklace became someone’s daily reminder of love (whether for their children, partner, or pet) means everything to me. Those moments remind me why I started: to create meaningful, lasting pieces that become part of someone’s journey. If there’s one thing I hope people take away from Button Daisy, it’s that every piece is made with heart, designed to be worn, loved, and lived in for years to come.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A few years ago, life in Los Angeles felt like a constant blur. I was working long hours in a hospital, spending 2 hours daily commuting through LA traffic, and trying to balance family life with two young kids. My husband and I were always working, and our weekends felt like the only time we truly saw each other as a family. When Covid hit, it shook everything up. Working in a hospital during that time was intense, and it made me rethink what I wanted our life to look like.
Our oldest was about to start kindergarten, and the logistics of it all (half school days, no one to pick her up, rising rent, and the impossible housing market) just didn’t make sense anymore. We realized that something had to change. We wanted to be more present with our girls and build a life with more balance. So, after a lot of late-night conversations, we decided to leave LA and move to Las Vegas.
It was scary leaving a stable job I’d had for nearly 14 years, along with friends and family we loved. Deep down, I knew it was the right step. I had been running Button Daisy for years as a nighttime passion project after the kids went to bed, and this move gave me the space to finally breathe and dream a little bigger. I took about a year off to get us settled into our new home, to build out my new studio, and to design a new website before slowly bringing Button Daisy back to life.
Looking back, that change taught me that slowing down isn’t giving up, it’s choosing what matters most. The move gave me space to reconnect with my family and with myself, to rest and begin to heal in ways I hadn’t realized I needed. That sense of balance now shows up in how I create.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There are so many rewarding moments like hearing from a customer, packaging an order, seeing my jewelry being worn, or simply creating in my studio. I always feel so honored to be a small part of someone’s life. It still feels mind-boggling that something I created with my hands can carry such deep meaning and purpose for someone else.
For me, the most rewarding part is the connection and purpose behind each piece. Every design begins quietly, just me at my workbench, but once it leaves my hands, it takes on a life of its own. I love the quiet, hands-on time of creating and thinking about the meaning a stamped or personalized piece might hold and the journey it might go on. Finishing a piece and seeing it complete always brings a sense of calm satisfaction.
Being an artist, to me, is about creating connection and purpose through something tangible. It’s about turning simple materials into something that holds emotion, memory, and meaning for someone else. Knowing that what I make can bring joy, comfort, or a sense of belonging – that’s what makes it all worthwhile.
