We were lucky to catch up with Nicholas Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I had been flirting with the idea of publishing a book for sometime due to the fact that I had a growing collection of poems. However, a fear of releasing such personal works prevented me from doing so. But I then took an interest in creating additional streams of income and after viewing a video on how to release a book, I decided to try my luck. After looking for inspiration for a book, I happened to look down at my daughters playing in the living room. Inspiration struck immediately and the words flowed like fine wine. In just a few minutes I developed what would become my first book: Sisters. It contained a poem about their growing relationship and friends and family gave me some positive and encouraging feedback. I decided to focus future books on other stories about my children and call my publishing company “This Dad Writes”. And to make sure my children stayed involved, I asked them if they wanted to assist me by looking for art to include in the stories. Once I did that I realized that I wanted to use the “This Dad Writes” platform to publish books and as a vehicle for teaching kids how to use artificial intelligence to write prompts. By doing this the children would also have the opportunity to learn some rudimentary computer skills like typing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
This Dad Writes, LLC is a company I created to publish books and serve as a platform for teaching kids computer skills such as typing and for introducing them to artificial intelligence. In addition to releasing books I am also in the process of developing an application for laptops and tablets for teaching typing and how to write prompts for AI engines. Additionally I build websites for clients. I focus on small business owners for the sites.
I love technology and have been in the industry as a systems engineer for about 18 years. I have been building sites since college.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Initially I started This Dad Writes because I desired another stream of income and to motivate my children to read more. The push for them to pick up a book instead of a tablet has been difficult. I believe this platform allows me to blend reading and technology in a way that keeps them engaged and sparks their imagination. They really love sitting at my desk, entering prompts and seeing the results onscreen. I want other kids to get that same spark.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new eyes on my books at this stage of the process has been my attendance at various book festivals and reading events. Handing out business cards along with the books at each sale resulted in a dramatic increase in followers online and emails asking about my website services and new releases.
