We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DavionTre Brown-Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DavionTre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
After over a year of working on my story The New Genesis: Leviathan, I can confidently say I am happier as a creative. I would be lying if I said I haven’t thought of giving up on it in place of a regular job, though. Starting out, there isn’t a lot of money in this creative thing and that can sometimes play a huge role in self doubts and fears of the future, something I often drown myself in. Whenever I am in that, however, I tend to remind myself that God provides through all and to not worry about such things. I have been shown time and time again that this is the path I am meant to be on, and nothing can take that from me other than myself and my anxiety.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yes, so I go by TreToons and I am the author and artist of the manga inspired comic known as “The New Genesis: Leviathan”! It is a Christian story that takes place in a world where “Spiritual Gifts” and “Blessings” are believed to be long forgotten, myths, even. But due to mysterious acts at play, a new surge of Blessings is brought about in Soulspir City! Our main character, Leviathan, has to help the city navigate through this new status quo of good uses of Blessings, and bad uses. He is also facing an identity crisis of sorts to where he is wanting to reignite his faith in God, but it is proving to be challenging. At its core, this is a story about love and the many forms it takes. It is a passion project I have been working on for years and I wager you can feel the love and passion put into it.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and/or “mission” is quite a simple one: I pray to write a story that can connect with those that feel not yet seen, and to spread the word of God in a fun, colorful, action packed, heartfelt way that I have not seen done before. I don’t wish to become famous, I don’t wish to become popular. If my story can connect to even just one person, I have done what I set out to do.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is connecting with others through energy, emotion, and passion. Being able to feel the love put into another person’s work and vice versa… there’s truly nothing else like it.
