We recently connected with Shannon Jamail and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shannon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started my ‘working life’ in sales from an early age. And was good at it. But didn’t feel completely fulfilled by it. I was in retail sales, corporate sales and real estate – and just found myself successful but burned out. I then went back to school for my masters in Mental Health Clinical Counseling and found what made my heart sing. Combining that with my yoga background, I left the world of sales (with a short pit stop owning a chain of amazing art studios- deepening my love for art and creative expression) and went into mental health and overall wellness. That is when my parent company, Mind & Body Complete was born. I started hosting wellness retreats and provided therapy and coaching programs for clients and knew right away I wanted to open my own healing and wellness center- which birthed Retreat Ranch in 2019. This progression took ten years time and then three years of searching for the right space and one year of build out before we opened last June (2021). We are still building and growing and learning as we develop this space.
Shannon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My goal in all that I do is to elevate one in mind & body. That is done through online programs and trainings, in person retreats and experiences as well as intentional products we sell here at the ranch.
We help individuals with stress, anxiety, feelings of overwhelmed and re-programming limiting beliefs and fears that is holding them back from living their best lives.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Several avenues for us to get new clients. Obviously social media is a big one, if you know how to use it (and if you don’t hire someone who does, even if you do contract hiring like on Upwork or Fivver).
Another one is partnering with like businesses and sharing with each others databases and cross promoting.
I also use third party websites to promote my retreats like bookretreats.com
There are free resources too, like Pinterest and social media without ad’s or boosts (paid promotions), free community events, belonging to the chamber, etc.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Everyone can relate to covid changes to business or life. All of my programs were in person and I needed to figure out a way to change that if I wanted to still be in business. So I created online learning programs and trainings and even held a few one day virtual retreats. It wasn’t my favorite way to connect honestly (I am big into real energy) but in order to continue to build and grow, it was necessary.
