We recently connected with IiiYansa Muse and have shared our conversation below.
IiiYansa, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Well, as a spiritualist, I was never comfortable with calling people customers…or even clients. I see people who come to me for divine guidance as children of The Divine, sent by their ancestors on divine appointment. That made it hard for me to see this as a business. The greatest thing I can say that I did, that I do, and that I will do in the future is to have something in place that potential querents can always tap into and get their spirits fed, free of charge. For me that something was what I love most about life…music! Enter, 222.9 The Mothership Internet Radio. Music has always been a way to heal and manage my frequency, so I share that love for soul-feeding, inspirational music to others. The music rotations are also infused with spiritual teachings, gems that potential querents (if you will) to pick up and apply to their everyday lives. Only when I had this in place was I more comfortable charging for spiritual counseling sessions, products, and other services.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am iiiYansaje T. Muse, a Priestess of Oya in the Ifa/Orisa Tradition, divine counselor, mystic journalist, lightworker, author, poet, radio host, and sole creator of 222.9 The Mothership Internet Radio… and a few other creative things!
Radio life began for me in 2004 at KPVU FM, 91.3 at Prairie View A & M University. I consider it divine calling, because I played a radio personality as a character in a play before becoming one in real life….talk about art imitates life! It came very natural, as I have always been a music lover.
In 2014, I became a professional psychic advisor, specializing in dream analysis, tarot, numerology, astrology, and often times no tools at all. In this profession, I’ve performed many spiritual counseling sessions, assisting people in the areas of love advice, family matters, and other crossroads in life. This also consisted of creating sacred jewelry, mixing oils, baths, and other healings through the elements. In 2017, I became a Priestess of Oya (Warrior Goddess of the Winds, Transformations, and Mother of Ancestral Wisdom). This turning point made my mission as a spiritualist more clear: to assist those going through deep transformations in life. I’ve written several books, and have since been awarded by my city and other networks for my works. I came to love this occupation as much as radio, as it came just as naturally. What I love about it most is that it is a journey of constant learning while teaching.
As time went on, I found a way to combine the two, creating my gift of love to the world…222.9 The Mothership Internet Radio. It was founded on Monday, February 22nd, 2021 (2.22) as a fusion of timeless music, mystic teachings, literature, poetry, and interviews. It is a place people can always tune into to hear good music in the forms of sleep meditation, ancient drums, traditional and smooth jazz, classic soul music, throwback R&B, gospel, and classic hip-hop. Good music feeds the soul, and 222.9 The Mothership is a positive space anyone can access at anytime, anywhere, to channel positive energy in the midst of trying times. I have also incorporated a hotline that people can call and get questions about their spiritual journeys answered in a relaxed, non judgmental space.
What sets me apart? My bold authenticity. All that I have created was a demonstration of turning my pain into power, and now I am doing the same for others. I think that is what I am most proud of.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There is. In a world of people separated by screens, I wish to bring back radio culture. Many people listening to the same radio station creates a sense of community and togetherness that I feel that people of like mind need to restore. This is especially so for spiritual individuals who often find themselves alienated and/or isolated from the “normal world,” per se. However, humanity is in a place of mass spiritual awakening, and we need to help each other understand our spiritual changes more so now than ever. In 11 years of divinatory practice, I have read for people of all walks of life. I discovered that we all have the same issues in different ways. These realizations inspire and motivate me to spread this radio station to all it resonates with, knowing we are all one under a cosmic groove!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The major lesson that I had to unlearn was the illusion of perfection. There is never a perfect time or space to begin building your dream. Over perfectionism stagnated my creative flow, not to mention imperfections add to authenticity. I had to learn how to stop being so hard on myself, and allow myself to enjoy the creative process! I think the perfectionist mentality came from my theater background, where productions were rehearsed to perfection. I still plug this where it fits, but I balance it with…improv. Whoever is reading this, start with what you have. Let yourself mess up. Let it be sloppy until repetition refines it! Journeys of a thousand miles start with the first step, so get in there!
