Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heauxlyfe . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Heauxlyfe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my social media myself because I feel like I know my mission best and can portray it in the most authentic way. So far, we’ve been growing slowly but surely, and I’m confident that staying true to the vision will continue to pay off over time. My biggest advice to other business owners is to really sit down and map out your intentions. Take the time to plan with detail and clarity, and don’t expect overnight success. Growth takes patience, consistency, and a clear understanding of the message you want to share with your audience.

Michelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my journey in the world of creativity through graphic design, which has always been a passion of mine. Alongside that, I’ve always had a deep love for fashion and clothing. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with my friend and create a clothing line, I jumped at it without hesitation. That’s how Heauxlyfe was born—a brand built on body positivity and celebrating the beauty of all women, no matter their shape, size, or skin tone. What truly sets us apart is that we don’t just talk about inclusivity; we live it. Our collection is genuinely size-inclusive, offering stylish, high-quality pieces in sizes XS through 5X, so every woman can feel confident and beautiful in what she wears. At its core, Heauxlyfe is about empowerment, self-expression, and creating a space where women can embrace who they are without limitations.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Networking has been the biggest key to building my audience on social media. In the beginning, I relied heavily on Facebook groups, where I connected with other entrepreneurs and potential customers. I really focused on follow-for-follow, but the most important part wasn’t just gaining followers—it was engaging with them consistently. I make sure to like, comment, and interact with others because genuine connections go a long way in building a loyal community.
Even offline, I’m always promoting the brand. Whenever I go out, I take the opportunity to talk about Heauxlyfe, and I’ll even pull up our social media pages on the spot so people can follow right then and there. My biggest piece of advice for anyone starting out is to learn to support others. It costs nothing to like, share, or comment on someone else’s post, and that kind of mutual support can create a strong, organic network. Building a social media presence isn’t just about numbers—it’s about building relationships and showing up for your community.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn is that your friends and family are not your target audience. Of course, it’s great when they support you, but you can’t take it personally if they don’t. In the beginning, I used to get really hurt when I would post about my brand and my friends or family wouldn’t engage, yet I’d see them sharing and supporting the work of complete strangers. It was frustrating and, honestly, there were times I cried about it. Over time, though, I realized that my true audience isn’t necessarily the people closest to me—it’s the people who genuinely connect with my brand and what it represents. Now, I focus on finding and reaching my target audience through intentional marketing, and I’ve let go of those expectations. The right people will find my brand, and that’s who I show up for.
