We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tomoko Wynn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tomoko below.
Alright, Tomoko thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
To be honest, I cannot imagine having a 9-5 job five days a week. I think I last had a regular job working part-time as a mannequin at a clothing store for a short period of time about 25 years ago.
I moved a lot because my husband worked for the military. I had always preferred to be a housekeeper and stay at home with my daughter. Now, I work only when I have clients or students which still allows me to have time to do housework and take it easy.
I am so happy as a business owner because I have the privilege to meet new people and even lead Community events through Sound Baths or Japanese Language School. I am also very happy to support cat lovers like myself. I am very satisfied with my life now.

Tomoko, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always knew that we could all use our energy for healing.
I was born and raised in Japan. In my 20’s, I met my husband and my entire life changed. He was in the military and moving was a big part of the job description. In Japan, I had a job, family and friends that I all of a sudden had to leave behind. We moved to Ohio, South Korea, Wyoming and Germany. We currently reside in California which is now our 13th house. Our daughter was also born while we were in Japan. As we moved and took care of our daughter, I had neglected to take care of my mental and physical health. I developed Fibromyalgia and Depression. Day after day, I woke up thinking, “ I don’t want to start today” for years. I took several medications for my conditions, but nothing helped. My Fibromyalgia and Depression is what led me to explore Reiki and learn it for myself. I eventually started to use Reiki to help other people. Since then, life started to get a little bit better.
Now, I live in Ventura, California. Before we moved here, we were in Germany for 9 years – because we were there for so long, my husband lost the right to choose our next change of station. Due to the uncertainty of our next move, I became even more stressed which impacted my depression and fibromyalgia. I had a hard time walking because of my body aches. At its worst, I couldn’t cross the street in time when the light was green and I couldn’t get off the bus while the door was still open. Luckily, we were sent to Ventura! I met new friends and doctors that helped guide me in managing my conditions. But of course, I never stopped giving myself Reiki. Now, I also participate in Metatron Colour Healing, Sound Baths and I started my practice to offer energy healing. I continue to take care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Because of my experience, I always remember to love and take care of myself through energy healing. And as a result, my life became better.
As a side, I also taught at a Japanese Language School for some time before I stopped. Now, I teach Japanese online. I also have two cats and would consider myself a “crazy cat lady”. I really enjoy working with cats so I also started a cat-sitting business. I also love to Bellydance!
Now, I go with the flow and try to really focus on doing what I love. I always encourage everyone to think about what makes them truly happy when starting a new job!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After many years of suffering, I learned that I was being supported by something much bigger than myself. And I think that applies to everyone! That “thing” could be God, the Universe, Reiki… you can call it whatever you want. We all have a choice in whatever decision we make. Even if something doesn’t turn out quite right, that decision wasn’t a mistake – it was a learning experience. All these years I’ve learned to always do my best and surrender to whatever outcome lies ahead. I often tell people to “Go with the flow.”
Life is a journey. Enjoy! Don’t be too serious!
Our Healing Journey is never ending!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I was born and raised in Japan. In Japan, there are very strict cultural norms and unspoken rules. People here are very well-organized and polite. Women are expected to obey men and children are expected to obey their parents.
I grew up under these circumstances and I regret not questioning these cultural norms. When I think back to my childhood, I remember trying so hard to be a good daughter to my parents. I studied hard so that I could get into a good college and get a good paying job like my parents wanted me to. I shouldn’t have obeyed any of their wishes because I was so unhappy. I wasn’t allowed any sleepovers, my parents didn’t like my boyfriends, they didn’t like the high schools or colleges that I chose. My voice was always kept quiet. I figured all of these experiences caused trauma which manifested itself as depression and fibromyalgia over the years. When I told them I was going to marry an American guy (my now husband), my father told me, “You are not my daughter anymore.” Fortunately, he has now accepted our marriage.
I was careful not to raise my daughter as my parents raised me. I learned my lesson and now, I live my life freely and fully. If you don’t live your life as your soul wants to, it can be harmful.
