Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Jaramillo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Olivia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
As a full time college student and part time employee I find myself not having a lot of free time. I was always under the impression that I needed to get my degree and then immediately have a stable and well paying job after college. Truth is nothing that is posted in the job market ever sparked my interest. I never truly had enjoyed any job I had until I tried wedding coordination at a venue. I loved it so much that I took the risk of starting my work business. As a college student, money is tight. I used my student loan to start my business and develop it. I knew I wouldn’t get clients right away especially as most people getting married plan a year in advance. Taking a risk, showed me that I can do whatever I want. You don’t have to have a college degree to determine your future. Although I am still in school, taking this risk has helped me jumpstart my life!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Olivia Jaramillo! I am a Reno, NV Native! I have always been someone who loves planning events, hosting parties, and creating plans for trips. I am very personable and love helping others. I currently am a Senior at the University of Nevada, Reno and I double major in Communication Studies and Criminal Justice. I have a lot of aspirations and it is hard for me to settle into working one job. I never knew I wanted to wedding planning until I started doing some research. From here, I reached out to wedding planners in Reno to get some experience. I then landed a part time job as a wedding coordinator at a reception in Reno which I have gained quality experience! From here I opened my business Saddle & Sage. I chose this name because I have always grown up around horses and I appreciate the western roots Nevada has! I offer not only wedding planning and coordination but also design services. Along with event planning for parties, bachelorettes, anniversary’s, proposals, baby showers and more!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a wedding planner is watching someone enjoy one of the best days of their life. Especially during full service planning you are with this person every step of the way. So much goes into a wedding and couples are often stressed. It feels so good allowing them to just enjoy their day stress free when it finally comes down to it after all this planning. I love knowing that I got to be apart of someone’s love story.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I am still in the process of this! Yes it is hard being in school and working part time along with owning my own business. But I have been trying to grow on social media and in particular Tik Tok. I think Tik Tok definitely appeals to the younger generation who may not be getting married quite yet. I would love to build a community where they grow with me and use me in the future to help plan their wedding. Staying consistent is key!
