Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Genesy Ferguson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Genesy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was stepping into real estate full-time when everything around me told me to play it safe. At the time, I had a steady path laid out something that promised stability but not fulfillment. On paper it would have made more sense to cling to security. But I knew if I didn’t bet on myself, I’d regret it.
Walking away from stability to build my career from the ground up wasn’t just about selling homes, it was about creating a legacy for my family and showing that you can design the life you want, even if it scares you. The first months were filled with doubt and financial pressure, but I leaned into my hustle, sharpened my skills, and built authentic relationships in my community.
That leap ended up changing my life. Today, I’m not only a Realtor but also an author, community connector, and entrepreneur. The risk forced me to grow into someone who doesn’t just chase opportunities but creates them. It taught me that the real risk is staying comfortable and never finding out what you’re capable of.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Genesy Ferguson and I’m a Realtor, author, and lifestyle creator based in Morgantown, West Virginia. My journey into real estate was never just about houses, it was about people. I’ve always been fascinated by how spaces shape our lives, and when my husband and I started building our own home, I realized how much I loved the process of helping others envision and create their next chapter. That curiosity and passion for connection is what led me into real estate, and it has become the foundation of my career.
As a Realtor, I work with buyers, sellers, and investors to not only help them navigate the market but also to make sure they feel confident, cared for, and represented every step of the way. My services go far beyond transactions: I bring in high-end visuals, creative marketing strategies, and a deep understanding of both the numbers and the emotions behind each decision. Whether it’s a first-time homebuyer nervous about the process, a family relocating for work, or a client selling a property that holds years of memories, my job is to guide, protect, and empower them through the transition.
What sets me apart is the way I blend strategy with storytelling. I don’t just put a home on the market. I craft a lifestyle around it so that buyers can see themselves living there. I also build long-term relationships with my clients, many of whom come back to me for advice and guidance years after closing. For me, it’s never just about “the deal,” it’s about legacy.
I’m also in the process of expanding my brand beyond real estate. My upcoming bilingual children’s book, Yo Hablo Spanglish, was inspired by my son and celebrates the beauty of cultural identity and language. It’s one of the many ways I want to create impact outside of real estate by telling stories that empower families and honor where we come from.
What I want people to know about me and my brand is simple: I’m here to help people build lives, not just buy homes. I care about creating spaces where families grow, memories are made, and futures are built. I’m proud to represent my community, my heritage, and my clients with authenticity, creativity, and heart.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Right now, I’m living through one of the most challenging seasons of my journey. The market has slowed down, houses are sitting longer, and it feels like every deal takes twice the effort to get across the finish line. At the same time, I’m raising a young child and managing the constant push and pull of wanting to be fully present as a mom while also building a business that my family can rely on.
It would be easy to let doubt take over in a season like this, but resilience for me looks like choosing to show up every single day anyway. It means getting creative with how I market homes, sharpening my strategies, and leaning on my faith and discipline even when results don’t come instantly. Some days it feels heavy, but I remind myself that building a legacy isn’t about avoiding hard times, it’s about proving to yourself that you can withstand them.
I don’t have the neat, tied-up ending to this story yet because I’m still writing it. But I know that this season is shaping me into a stronger agent, a stronger entrepreneur, and a stronger woman and that’s what resilience is all about.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’ve built my reputation in my market by leading with authenticity and consistency. From day one, I decided I didn’t want to be the kind of agent who just put a sign in the yard and waited. I wanted to tell the story of every property, highlight the lifestyle around it, and make sure my clients felt truly represented. That’s why I invest in professional visuals, creative marketing strategies, and social media content that not only showcases homes but also builds trust with the community.
Equally important is the way I treat my clients. I don’t see them as “transactions”. I see them as relationships. Most of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients, and that only happens when people feel like you genuinely have their back. I answer the late-night calls, I explain the fine print, and I fight for my clients like I would for my own family.
What’s also helped me stand out is blending my personal life and values into my brand. I share pieces of my journey as a mom, a wife, and a first-generation Dominican American, and people connect with that. It makes real estate feel less intimidating and more human.
At the end of the day, my reputation isn’t just about selling homes, it’s about showing up with integrity, creativity, and heart. That’s what sets me apart in my market.
