We were lucky to catch up with Eddie And The Getaway recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eddie And The Getaway, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was around 11-years-old I went to my first U2 concert and Bono actually ended up pulling my sister up on stage. She got to run around and stuff. It was a really cool moment. I remember so vividly thinking at the time that it was okay that I wasn’t the one picked to do that because I wanted to be the one who was going to pull people up on stage one day. U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name” is a song that I’ve leaned on so much and it’s helped me get through a lot in my life. I just knew that if a song could have that much power over me that I wanted to pay that back to others with the music that I make.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 25-year-old singer, songwriter and producer from Arizona making music for people who need music to get through whatever they are going through. Whether it’s good or bad, whether you like rock, country or anything in between, whether you need to let loose and not think about your daily life for a moment or want to dive in deeper and feel understood, there is something there for everyone.
My parents gifted me a drum set when I was five years old and I absolutely loved it but I think they might’ve had some regrets because of how loud it was. By the time I was like 10, I was encouraged to start playing the guitar, which brought the volume down a little, but that’s really when I began feeling like I finally had a way to cope with the craziness of life. I started getting more serious about music in middle school and I would go to an after-school program called School of Rock. There were about 20 of us kids and they would split us into teams to battle one another and at the end of the semester we would put on a little show. Then during my sophomore year of high school, Alice Cooper held a local battle of bands competition in Arizona because he lives there. It was about a three-month long competition with over like 105 bands that my band ended up winning that year. We got to open a show for him too, which was super sick. After that, I kind of knew I had to keep chasing music and see what was there for me.
Every song I put out is something that I’ve personally experienced. It’s real music for real people. I’m most proud when people come up to me in public or after a show and tell me a story about how one of our songs has impacted them and helped them get through a hard time in their life. It means more to me than anything.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I moved to Nashville to chase my dream in music right before Covid happened. I experienced weeks, if not months, of not knowing if I was supposed to be there. I was working random jobs to pay for recording songs. And right as I had spent basically my last dollar on music, I finally had a song take off on social media. The coolest part about that song being the one to really hit is that it was about all of the struggles that I had gone through to get to that point.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to make music that people relate to in a meaningful way. Music has created such a cool community for me and is one of the most special things in my life.
