We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beretta Biz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beretta below.
Beretta, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’d say around 2010. This is at the height of the “Blog Era” of hip hop and after being introduced to artists like Curren$y, J. Cole, Wale, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Krit (just to name a few lol) I was inspired by their approach to the art form. Although they did/do rap about large forms of money it wasn’t your typical mainstream style where the topic of money seemed almost unattainable….these are guys that I felt I could relate to because their everyday lifestyle (or at least the ones they portrayed) seemed like the kind that I was living or close to living. So being that I was already pretty good at rapping I just started to incorporate my day to day in my music in order to make things relatable to the listeners as well.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Like I mentioned before the foundation was the music itself and making sure I stayed true to myself and what I was aiming to portray….authenticity. I only started releasing music around 2015 on SoundCloud because of how user friendly it was and I wasn’t familiar with how to put it out there to the major platforms. That is until 2016 when I met a good friend of mine/artist Ivan L via social media and we mutually decided to start working together and I joined his collective called BroLife as he was trying to expand globally and he taught me about ways to release my music through a distribution platform called DistroKid and basically the rest is history. I think for me at this point I’m most proud of my consistency because since 2016 I’ve released roughly 23 projects and I also feel that’s what sets me apart from most in this business.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think for me the most rewarding is having the body of work that I do. As I stated previously there was a time when I wasn’t sure if I would be able to allow myself to be heard with the likes of mainstream artists it almost felt unrealistic but that was due to my ignorance. I’m proud to say that I have several songs that are doing well, streaming wise, overseas and to this day that’s wild to me lol

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission was and still is to gain more supporters because I feel that my music can stack up with the best out here doing it. I’d like to get to a point where I can travel to any major city and sellout a show and if not sell it out then at least draw enough of a crowd of real supporters where I can turn the microphone to them and they’re able to recite the words, without ever having met them before.
